Continental Airlines, based in Houston, Texas, the United States, has announced that it is increasing the number of its flights from Heathrow Airport in London to Newark Liberty International Airport in New York with two additional services daily.

The airline will add a fourth daily flight between Heathrow Airport and its hub at Newark Liberty International Airport from March 27, 2010, and a fifth service from October 30, 2010. This will bring the total number of Continental Airlines’ daily departures to Heathrow Airport to 7, including the twice-daily flights from Houston.

Continental Airlines said in a statement that the airline is also improving its services on all Heathrow connections by providing flat-bed seats in Business-Class (BusinessFirst) cabins on flights to Houston and New York.

Jeff Smisek, CEO of Continental Airlines, said in a statement that every aircraft of Continental Airlines leaving London’s Heathrow Airport will have the new premium flat-bed seats by June 2, 2010.

The London-New York route, Jeff Smisek explained, is a flagship route for Continental Airlines, which is the leading carrier in the New York area. All the passengers on the London-New York route will benefit from the enhanced flight options, and those travelling in BusinessFirst – be it to Houston or to New York – are assured of a flat-bed seat.

The premium flat-bed seat in the Business-Class on flights to New York and Houston has a flat sleeping space with a length of 6 feet and 6 inches, along with a built-in 15.4-inch entertainment screen as well as power, iPod and USB sockets.

According to Jeff Smisek, the timing of the extra flights between New York and London will benefit the holidaymakers who wish to book tickets for the Easter holidays or during the summer holidays. The additional flight starting from October 30, 2010, is expected to cater to those who are planning a Christmas holiday or an early shopping trip, Jeff Smisek said in the statement.

Continental Airlines flies to destinations throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region.
