AirAsia has launched direct daily Bangkok-Bali flights.
AirAsia has also launched its first Bangkok-Guanzhou flight on January 20, 2009.

AirAsia’s Bangkok-Bali flight and its Bangkok – Guanzhou flight are operated by AirAsia group. AirAsia has said that it is offering special low fares online for the Bangkok-Bali flight. A one-way ticket on sale would cost 999 baht.

Bookings for the Bangkok-Bali flight opened on December 17, 2008.

Reports say that AirAsia will also launch a Penang-Macau flight on March 1, 2009. AirAsia will also increase the frequency of its Kuala Lumpur – Macau service to four flights a day from March 1, 2009.

The Penang-Macau flights will be direct weekly flights, four times a week. The Macau-Penang flights will be direct weekly flights, three times a week.

AirAsia said, in a statement, that a one-way trip from Penang to Macau would cost  RM49 at the minimum fare. Passengers can buy tickets online during January 15 – 25, 2009, for travel dates between March 1 and October 24, 2009.

Apart from these flights, AirAsia will also resume its Kota Kinabalu-Macau service and Kuching-Macau routes from March 1, 2009. It will also launch a new Kota Kinabalu-Sibu route.

AirAsia is Asia’s largest low-cost airline that started operations in 1996. The airline is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and serves over 75 domestic and international routes in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Myanmar, China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Australia, United Kingdom, India and the Philippines.

AirAsia is mulling over setting up its own budget terminals in Indonesia, Burma, and Thailand to boost its regional network.

The state-controlled airport operator Malaysia Airports Bhd (MAB) is opposed to AirAsia’s plan to set up its own airport, because it might mean losses for Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

AirAsia estimates that it will carry 60 million passengers every year by 2013, and have a fleet of over 184 aircraft. The airlines feels that it will need 60-gate terminals to serve its passengers, instead of the 15 gates assigned to it, at KLIA.
