American Eagle Airlines, the regional partner of American Airlines, will start new non-stop flights to six cities from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in Texas, the United States. The destinations are Santa Fe (New Mexico), Tallahassee (Florida), Montgomery (Alabama), Brownsville (Texas), Lake Charles (Louisiana) and Manhattan (Kansas).

American Eagle Airlines said in a statement that while the flights to Santa Fe, Tallahassee, Montgomery, Brownsville and Lake Charles (Louisiana) will begin on June 11, 2009, the new service to Manhattan (Kansas) will take off on August 25, 2009.

American Airlines and American Eagle Airlines are subsidiaries of AMR Corporation.

Peter Bowler, president and CEO of American Eagle Airlines, said that American Eagle would operate the new flight services with 50-seat Embraer ERJ-145 jet aircraft.

“We are proud to bring American Eagle service back to Montgomery, and this service will allow our new customers from Montgomery the opportunity to travel to destinations in the western United States that American Airlines or American Eagle fly to from our Dallas/Fort Worth hub,” Bowler added.

Business customers can also take a quick day-trip to Dallas.

Peter Bowler said that members of the US military, who are based in the River Region, would benefit from American Eagle’s new flights, since these flights proceed to Texas and other destinations in the western United States.

American Eagle Airlines said that it last operated a service to Montgomery in November of 2000.

The website chron.com quoted Tom Leppert, Mayor of Dallas, as commenting on American Eagle’s new flights, “Travel is a critical factor in keeping the North Texas economy strong, and we are excited about the opportunity to expand destinations from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.”

American Airlines and American Eagle Airlines operate about 745 daily departures to nearly 160 non-stop destinations from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

American Eagle Airlines had earlier announced that the service to Santa Fe, New Mexico, would start in December 2007, but it was put off while aviation officials in Santa Fe completed environmental reviews for the airport there.

Meanwhile, American Eagle Airlines said that, like American Airlines, it was cutting capacity in 2009 following a slump in demand for air travel and that it was redeploying aircraft to provide the six new services.

American Eagle Airlines said it was doing away with flights that were not profitable in order to fund the six new destinations.
