American Eagle Airlines, based in Fort Worth, Texas, the United States, has ended its services at Love Field Airport in Dallas.
This is a part of the efforts by the regional carrier American Eagle Airlines and its affiliate American Airlines to operate at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
The last flight of American Eagle Airlines, between Love Field Airport and Chicago, left for Dallas a little before 5 p.m. on June 10, 2009.
Meanwhile, American Eagle Airlines has launched new non-stop service to 5 cities in the United States from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport – to Brownsville, Texas; Santa Fe, New Mexico; Tallahassee, Florida; Montgomery, Alabama; and Lake Charles, Louisiana.
The carrier said that Brownsville would get 3 flights a day; Montgomery and Lake Charles would get 2 flights daily; and Santa Fe and Tallahassee would have 1 daily roundtrip flight.
In a statement, American Eagle Airlines said that, it had three leased gates in the east concourse of Love Field Airport in Dallas. Out of these three gates, the airline would sub-lease one gate to Delta Air Lines.
The service by Delta Air Lines would be flown by Pinnacle Airlines, an independent airline based in Memphis, Tennessee, under the Delta Connection banner. The service would use regional jets with 50 seats.
In March 2009, American Eagle Airlines had said that it was discontinuing its flights till Love Field Airport’s new gates and a re-modelled terminal were completed – probably by 2014.
The statement from American Eagle Airlines stressed that the carrier “expects to return to Love Field Airport,” adding that the company was “sorry to discontinue service at Love Field Airport during these difficult economic times.”
American Airlines and American Eagle Airlines – which returned to Love Field Airport in early 2006 – had operated flights, at various times, to San Antonio, Austin, Kansas City, Montana, St Louis and Chicago through their own flights or through the regional airline Trans States Airlines.
According to its website, American Eagle Airlines operates 300 regional aircraft in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean – with over 1,800 daily departures. The airline says it flies over 20 million passengers annually.
