AirTran Airways has said that it woluld launch seasonal flights between Denver and Milwaukee from 21 May 21, 2009. The flights would be between Denver International Airport and General Mitchell International Airport, Milwaukee. One round-trip flight between the two cities is planned through 8 September, 2009.

AirTran has also started new routes to St. Louis, Branson, Mo., and Minneapolis-St. Paul. The airline will also resume seasonal flights to Denver.

After the failure of its attempt to buy the Milwaukee’s main airline the Midwest Air Group even after spending more than $10 million on the effort, Airtran has been busy trying to replace Midwest as Milwaukee’s main airline.

Since then there has been changes in air traffic carried by these airways. In August 2007, Midwest Airlines carried 36.5 percent; while AirTran handled only 7.3 percent of the airport’s traffic. But by December 2008, Midwest Airlines’ market share dropped to 12.9 percent, less than AirTran’s 17.5 percent.

“We see enormous potential in Milwaukee, and this increase in service underscores our commitment to growth in the market.” said AirTran spokesman Tad Hutcheson.

“With the addition of AirTran Airways’ new flights, Milwaukeeans can expect to see fares drop as much as 60 percent on these routes, and we are confident that residents will continue responding to our lower fares to more destinations.” He added

In comparison to last years 21 daily departures Airtran will now have 30 departures daily from Milwaukee as per the summer schedule. It will also have nonstop service to 18 destinations from Milwaukee, up from 14.
