The Aerion supersonic business jet may not be for everyone, but all of us can enjoy a photo gallery, can’t we?

Feeling sad about the lost days of the Concorde? Supersonic travel and stuff – even if most of us could never afford it? Well, mourn no more. The son of Concorde supersonic plane – the Aerion Supersonic business jet will be here by 2015. Or so Aerion claims.

Aerion Supersonic business jet can cross the Atlantic in 2 hours
Aerion test flights are expected to begin in 2012. A flying prototype of the Aerion business jet is not ready yet. The aircraft has recently entered the design phase. So the pictures of the Aerion Supersonic Business Jet that you see on these pages are, well, nothing more than rendered pictures. It does not exist.

Don’t feel so bad about that. This is no fly-by-night operator, and the company is serious about the suersonic business jet business. They have already received 50 orders. The deposit for booking one for yourself is $ 250,000 – the Aerion Superspnic Jet itself has a way high price of 80 million dollars!

Aerion Supersonic business jet not as good-looking as the Concorde? We don
There is another disappointment too. This is not a passenger plane like the Concorde. Sure it would cross the Atlantic at Mach 1.6, but you wouldn’t be in it. It is a business jet, which by definition means private stuff. Billionnaires with big money would buy it, and zip across the Atlantic at supersonic speeds.
The rest of us, we would see photos of them doing it.
To recap, the Aerion Supersonic business jet is in its design phase now, it can cross the Atlantic in 2 hours, fly London-New York in 3 hours, costa a pile, will have its test flight in 2012, certification in 2014. expect some normal delays, and the Aerion supersonic jet would be a reality perhaps in 2016.
Many aviation observers said the Aerion supersonic jet is not half as handsome as the Concorde. We disagree. It looks quite good, and more modern. The Concorde despite its shape was beginning to look ancient.
Would some airline companies buy it and fly it as a tourist attraction across the Atlantic, or perhaps as a charter plane? We can always hope!

Aerion supersonic test flight will be in 2012
Operating cost was one of the major problems with the Concorde supersonic plane. The Aerion supersonic jet has low operating costs, pretty similar to a Boeing 747′s operating costs.
The other benefit is in the noise department. The Aerion supersonic jet can operate at Mach 1.16 without a sonic boom, which means where it can fly to won’t be restricted, like in the case of the Concorde. Aerion’s patented natural laminar flow technology reduces drag and eliminates the sonic boom at those speeds.
Mach 1.6, the top speed of the Aerin supersonic business jet, is equivalent to 1217 mph.
For now, Aerion has released graphics that are pretty much like photos, for the Supesonic business jet. We are happy enough just looking at that. They even have photos of the interior of the Aerion aircraft – photoshopped or 3D rendered for sure, but this brings a little cheer into the lives of us aviation watchers.
As you know, currently the aviation industry worldwide is facing tough times due to the high ATF price, economic slowdown, and credit crunch. Hopefully, Aerion would be able to go forward on its plans without any trouble, and the downturn would be over sooner rather than later.
For now, enjoy the pictures of the Aerion business jet.

The interior is too small. It will be claustrophobic. It will definitely be a very risky plane to gly in and 1 out of 50 rich passengers will die flying it.
Much prefer to fly in a luxury hotel jet airship.

I think Virgin Galactic will offer suborbital transatlantic/pacific flights before this gets off the ground. And even if those flights are $100k each they would still be a pretty good deal when you add up the 80mil pricetag and the cost of private specialized pilots and ground crews/mechanics. Also suborbital would be easily 3 times as fast.

Believe you have to consider all aspects in the current economic climate – personally do no think we have seen the full extent of the recesssion, so would be cautious in considering.
