Yamaha YZF-R15 motorcycle launched
Biking just got hotter with the new Yamaha YZF-R15. Japan’s global bike giant Yamaha is rolling out the brand new sports motorcycle YZF-R15 for India motorcycling enthusiasts.

The YZF-R15 will be the first motorcycle in India with six gears after the old Yamaha RD 350. The engine is a liquid-cooled, four-stroke single cylinder four-valve fuel injected engine. Liquid cooling on the YZF R15 is a first for motorcycles in India. The 150cc engine produces 16 bhp. A lot of people would not be all that happy with that 150 cc specification of the YZF-R15. However, the 16 bhp and 6 gears would keep a lot of wannabe racers satisfied.
In India, Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd’s stylish 150 cc high-end bike will take on the market segment so far ruled by Hero Honda’s Karizma, Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS-FI and TVS Apache RTR.
How would it fare on the road against the Karizma? Initial guesses are that this 150cc crotch rocket would beat the Karizma in acceleration stakes. Top speeds are another issue altogether. However, we will have to wait for the initial test rides of the YZF-R15 to come in to have any clarity at all on this.
Yamaha India believes that the new model would kick start a new experience altogether for Yamaha enthusiasts.The model is being tipped as one of the most technologically advanced bikes in India. Yamaha in India is aggressively promoting YZF-R15, which will come sporting a price tag of close to Rs 100,000, and is targeting a sale of 25,000 units between now and December.
The pricing is a surprise. It was believed, post Auto-Expo 2008, that this motorcycle is likely to be priced quite a bit above Rs 1 lakh when it hits the roads. Yamaha has taken care of that; psychologically, that rs 1 lakh marke is a killer and might have ruined its chances in India.
The YZF-R15 motorcycle, looks-wise, takes after the Yamaha R1 superbike. The motorcycle is available in two colours, racing blue and black. This is also India’s first motorcycle with a full-fairing in front - lookswise, we can safely call it the best in the market.
Positioning it properly for the Indian market, Yamaha hopes for a re-emergence in the country’s bike mart after a slew of commuter bikes which the company ahs been churning out in the last decade after the iconic Yamaha RX 100.
As part of the launch, the company has also unveiled a series of events with test rides and is happy with the response. Yamaha Motor India Pvt Ltd today it plans to invest about Rs 800 crore in the next three years for product development, capacity expansion and marketing initiatives.

its a beautiful full fairing fronted bike….it looks expensive but it comes cheap..it beats the karizma and the pulsar220cc in all aspects, except for the bikes rear tire which is a little thinner than the pulsar and sadly it lacks rear disk brakes.

It looks like very nice. NO one bike company introduced rear disk break in India. SO, it’s a good manufacturing. Pickup is not as great to give 1,00,000Rs for dis bike. Because the segment of buyers of dis bike is just for higher not for general people.I think it will be available to any class people, if the cost decrease.

The bike looks great but the price compared to the 225cc karizma and 220 pulsar do not match this may result in less sell and defeat in the competitive market thus to stand strong on the compitition yahama should either decrease the price or the increase the cc from 150 to 250cc.

wicked…….the YAMAHA R15 has got a little more power & same torq than my PULSAR 180 DTS-I (2004).i realy wasent that intrested…..but then,when i went to the show room to ask its price…i said it costs Rs1,10,000.i went like wow(shocked).but when i asked for its capabilityes….he said that it gives 40KMpL & it go’s a top speed of 140KMpH ….i was like wow(surprised).the moment i knew that….i ordered my YAMAHA R15(blue).i love my PULSAR 180 DTS-I but that byke i defenetlee going to b something(wondering)……

hey stupid people ,why not talk on facts after u have experienced it ,i have karizma 225 ,i had my first look on an r15 today ,its looks deceived me as i couldnt find any similarity between r1 and this bike .
this guy riding r15 somewhat made me think that my karizma in no good then his new bike ,by intimidating me by going in front of me ad then buzzing past me ,he just irritated me ,so at the next stop i asked him what he wanted ,he asked for a quater mile drag so we stopped at the next stop ,it was a drag for 1 grand ,i never drag for money but this time i was not going to let this person walk off without paying the cost for awaking my draging instinct which died 5 months ago because no one wanted to drag after i bought my karizma .
so the race started ,initially he got ahead of me thanks to the great reputation of yamaha bikesfor having great initial pickup ,but after 100 meters into the race i caught up to him ,and guess what i won ,by a margin of about 50m ,so he had to pay me 1grand ,and guess what he said these golden words ‘U HAVE A BETTER BIKE THEN ME’ ,so i ask u people to shut up and discuss facts here and if u have to talk rubish use orkut and fool ur friends ,because this is bikers site and they beleive when they experience.

its a gud bt expensive 1 ,as we all know its world of fashion so it might capture the market nd beat the BAJAJ bt on the other hand if we see the configuration of the bike, it seems to be unsatisfied becoz we get more power at cheaper rate( i.e pulsar 220, karizma….).

Best 150 cc bike till date in india, a bike having 17ps power with 6 GEARS, rear disc breakes,
R15 can be called small monster sister of the Ri, 135kmph top speed(without crouching)
150kmph crouched, and a totally different engine noise, -WAOW only bike giving accessories like racing stand, rear seat cowl,
tank protector, LED flasher set etc… , what lacks in the bike is the wheel base of tyres but i think a person going for the bike will fit a wider rear tyre acc to his need , absence of kick makes it a totally different bike and it becomes closer in looks to the R1, Its a must buy bike for those who love and respect the YAMAHA motorcycles ,
its truely value for money. I thank YAMAHA for launching R15 in the indian market.

After undertsanding the design aspects, the bike is simply great for the looks and price you pay. Willingly Yamaha has given a run to their competitors for sure..!
Yamaha should further take on a challange and capatalize on the mid growing segment price range between 1.25 to 1.5 lack. They should consider this segment with 250cc engine power and yes the design has to be identical as “R6″ without compromising on any design factors. If this ever been made possible, will definately make kick start into a mid segment.
Unless they have further plans to actually lauch “R6″ which might not be possible as per foreign trade policy.

Specially about aerodynamics
Just hold the throttle, the bike starts scattering the air.
The combustion starts with twin inlets (intake) & twin outlets (ex)
A 4-valve arrangement is effluent. The forged piston again makes the diff. as a metallurgist I can say the strength & toughness in the material is greater in forged comp. compared to casted one.
So don’t get confuse with cc,
Yamaha has always kept up with new innovation while constantly bringing it to the next
level. With liquid cooled, 4-valve FIE, YZF-R15 comes with R1 DNA.
So friends who are thinking to catch the YZF R-15 have it.!

Its matter of time the early gear shifting dude ..
Its good you started with slow… but the pickup is > at low gear … the skill is all about the way you…. shift the gears / depending upon the distance you need to cover.
I challenge you with my RX100 for a short distance ride. lets see who is fooling.
Whether it is P220, 180, 150, ZMA, Tbird are Shogun…

well one thing,just don’t go for this bike,as this bike is having fi-system,and liquid cooled engine,bike is going to be in problem in the latewr part after getting it.as i have done the pdi of this bike i encounter with some problem.
1.digitel trip meter will not going to last long having problem.
2.front disc is not softer at times.
3.seat lock goes off.

guys.. i have a friend who had this bike shipped all the way to australia for his collection. sad to say this bike is uderpowered.. no kickstart is also a drawback. honestly, this bike ate dust when we raced it by 600 meters with a suzuki satria 150.

All those who have said that these bike is the worst model of the year! I would like to add one point to it thats speaks it all and that is you Indians are very cheap, i have been to India and i have seen that there were mostly scooter and small bikes like splendor so don’t go around the bush beating complaining about its price tag, if you all can’t buy it then simply admit it you indian fools. this bike is simply outstanding and and i can’t find any word to describe how the bike looks to me.
i was thinking of purchasing a bike recently may be pulser or Karizma whichever else. but after watching the stunning looks of this one i have already changed my idea of purchasing those one. hence the price of this one too much comparison to others when it has the similarity in functioning with others.

i m 25, it`s really nice but there is a problem;it`s only a electric start bike so u understand when your battery is not charged,what was going on…………but i appreciate it`s body structure.

I test rode an R15 yesterday and I was amazed by its handling, brakes and smooth performance. The looks definitely get a 10 on 10. Comparing this to a Pulsar or Karizma is a big mistake. Look at the breakthrough in biking technology which the R15 has brought to India! The first liquid cooled engine for a 150cc bike, front and rear disk brakes, fuel injection and the list goes on. This bike definitely deserved being labelled “Bike of the Year” and we need to respect that! YaMAHA tum MAHAan ho!

This is the best bike in India now. Earlier people who were fond of superbikes were no option but to buy the minnows Bajaj Pulsar or Karizma. But Yamaha has made a superb comeback with the new YZF R -15 which is the GOD of all Indian bikes.
Well there is no question of comparision of the Pulsars & Karizmas with the new R-15 . The former is not even the footdust of the latter.
