Yamaha Motor India is all set to give Bajaj a run for its money. With a series of launches lined up from the Yamaha stable by April 2007, Bajaj Auto may too have to gear up for competition.
The 100 per cent Indian subsidiary of Yamaha Motors, Japan, has been reportedly firming up launch of a 150cc and a 180cc bike next year. To be priced at around Rs 60,000, the Yamaha machines would pose a challenge to Bajaj Pulsar’s dream run.
To be rolled out of the Yamaha plants in Faridabad and Surajpur the 150 cc and 180 cc bikes will also face competition from the likes of Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India’s (HMSI) Unicorn and Hero Honda’s Achiever and CBZ motorcycles.
The company which currently has four models in the market, namely the Gladiator, Libero, G5 and Crux, has priced all these in the economy and the executive range of 110cc to 125cc. Now with the premium segment registering a robust of growth of late thanks to the slew of launches from dfferent players, Yamah too hopes to ser the road on fire with its forthcoming models.
Though a trusted brand name, Yamaha's motorcycles had been lagging in the market place due to stiff challenges posed by the Pulsars and Apaches. With the new motorcycle launches, the company expects to create a brand name for itself before strengthening its position in the Indian market.
