Yamaha FZ 16 motorcycle: A macho street fighter from Yamaha

The 150 cc two-wheeler space has been set ablaze with the Macho Street Fighter Yamaha FZ 16. Unveiled in India for a price of Rs 65,000, the Yamaha FZ 16 is expected to hit dealerships starting this October.

We saw the FZ 16 for the first time at the Auto Expo in January 2008. The price of the FZ16 is lower than most expected – that might give it a jump start.

Official information from the company uses the words ‘Macho Street Fighter’ in the press release, that seems to be a description of the motorcycle, not its name. FZ 16 is all we can find on the website of yamaha India.

The Yamaha FZ 16 motorcycle boasts of a 153 cc air-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder high torque engine, single-axis balancer and mono-cross suspension. Other feaures that come with bike that sports street-fighter looks include 5-spoke die-cast alloy wheels, brakes of 267mm single cross-drilled ventilated rotor with 2-pot calipers and 130 mm drum and a fuel tank with a 13-litres capacity.

According to company top brass, FZ 16 has all in it to provide Indian bike enthusiasts with both a rough and brutish expression as well as a certain subtlety. Expected to be a bike that could be picked up by all bike enthusiasts who love the thrills of biking, the FZ 16 is being offered by the company in in three hues, Lava Red, Midnight Black and Flaming Orange.

As far as macho looks go, the Yamaha FZ 16 motorcycle beats all other motorcycles hands down. The design is that muscular, in some ways the polar opposite of that other handsome motorcycle from Yamaha, the YZF R15.

Yamaha India hopes to sell at least five lakh FZ 16s in year 2009, which going by the looks and features may not be a tough task.  Reviewers of the bike have said that the street fighter looks make Yamaha FZ-16 the best looking naked bike in its class Further, the macho tank, aggressive front heavy stance and the rear view make the FZ-16 a must buy in its category.

You get fat 100/80-17 / 140/60-R17 (front/ rear) tyres, a monoscross suspension that looks really well integrated into the frame, and a weight of 137 kilos, that make the FZ16 a very manageable motorcycle on the road.

The petrol tank, silensor, the yellow-gold plated rear shock absorber and fat tyres give enough clues to the true strength of the Yamaha FZ 16 motorcycle – torque that is a bit higher than the 160 Apache RTR and tuned for acceleration and mid-range than outright top speed. Unlike the YZF R15, the Yamaha FZ16 motorcycle is more a city bike, tuned for aggressive city riding than for pure top speed.

The bike is expected to shake the entire two-wheeler segment market in the country by luring all youngsters to the showrooms. It is expected that the other majors such as the Apaches, Pulsars and the Hunks would see tough competition when the bike arrives this October.

    Great Bike.It will definately defeat R15 and moreover it costs only Rs 73,000 only on road price.
    Mileage is 55km/litre.It will rock INDIAN roads.

    The Byk is Awesome with average of 50 company claim more than that but actual is 50.
    i ve already booked the byk for Rs 75000. one time cash from yamaha
    please i tell you dont take this byk frm dealer ill sugest yamaha showroom is the best.
    they wont give you any additional acc but still go with showroom even if the price is bit high….. well guys im very happy for not going on to pulasr 200 n taking this byk

The looks and other features are all appreciatable. The looks are awesome. As its been said that this bike is gonna rock the city and its gonna be the Street Fighter especially in city, all i would like to know is only about the mileage which is one of the major factor in the city.     hi all..! I’ve seen the bike multiple times in the showroom , no doubts the bike is a PULSAR KILLER..!
    however curious to know abt the mileage of the bike coz pulsar is tried and tested and ruling the indian roads for quite a long time now..! moreover FZ doesn’t have a kick start included so i was just wonderin if that shud not create a hassel in the rainy , damp and winter season..! the yamaha also haven’t provided a facility for a test ride of the bike which i thought is a mandatory thing..!

Milage is around 45-50 kmpl, Power : 14 Bhp. 140mm rear tyres (the fattest in 150cc segment). 0-60 in 5.3 sec (again the fastest in 150cc segment). On Road price is 75000.00/-. Bike comes in three colors. 1) Midnight black 2) Flaming Orange and 3) Lava Red.

    Hello frens,
    I booked my RED FZ on 22-9 at pune (wakdewadi). The showroom guy told me that the bike is available but some RTO stuff is pending. He also asked me to take away the bike but with some legal hitch… god knows.

    Well according to him i will get get the bike on 24-10.
    But yes the reviews by shoeb and akhil… have made me impatient about this byk. could you both write more about the pick-up and cornering of this byk.

    i brought my last yamaha ybx some 9-10 yrs back and since then i was waitin for another power pack yamaha which is on road now.

    i didnt like R 15 coz i feel the bike is too big for a 150 cc engine. no doubt i salute the engineers at yamaha that they packed the R1 technology in R15 but i felt the the byk is not fit for 150 cc, also the tyres are disappointing.

    CRUX, FAZER, LIBERO… forget them as bad dreams.. god knows what went wrong with yamaha those days,,,,

    but now no looking back.. YAMAHA ROCKS…..

    Its one of the best and safest bet. I just confirmed its on road price to be 75000 including all taxes.
    They have Yamaha finance which requires 30000 downpayment and 24 months * 2000 installments.
    With Superb styling and the streetfighter concept, this bike is going to be the best. I personally feel all engines can be modified for performance. So later when we are done with the street riding, we very well might customize the engine a bit. Yamaha engines are no doubt fantastic in reliability and performance.

    milleage no big problem…. some bikes give around 30 some around 40 and some more than 50…. so u ppl need not worry about it… its all about how ur engine is tuned… mine used to give around 37 before the 1st service… i got it tuned during my first service and it gives around 46 now…. but a with a sacrifice of power…
