When is the Mahindra Ingenio coming?

Sunday, August 10, 2008, 18:52

If you are an avid auto news reader in India, you probably heard about the Mahindra Ingenio in 2006. This is August 2008.

Just like the long-in-coming Toyota Fortuner (we wrote about that first in 2005 I think!), the Ingenio has been languishing on auto magazine pages and car forums. But no car.

Now what we hear is that the Mahindra Ingenio is being tested, and occasionally caught in testing by car enthusiasts. The pics, of course, show a heavily camouflaged version of the Ingenio. You can see a few pics here

For those who don’t know what the hell we are talking about, the Mahindra Ingenio is a much talked about MUV like the Toyota Innova, Qualis, the Tata Sumo Grande and the Chevrolet Tavera. A people-carrier.

So you know what to expect in that department. We know how big a success was the Scorpio – despite serious stability issues and a design that makes like look like a grandma wearing lipstick and mini skirt. The Ingenio already knows which vehicles it has to beat. The Tavera is an easy kill, while the Qualis may not be so easy to beat.

The spy shots that are appearing here and there should mean the launch of the Mahindra Ingenio should happen pretty soon. You can trust Mahindra to price it reasonably to make it an alternative to the Innova.

I wish the Ingenio would be better than the Qualis. However, past vehicles from Mahindra do not justify any such confidence.

Guess we just have to sit tight for a couple of months now.
