German car manufacturer Volkswagen will roll out its next generation Polo in India next year. According to industry sources, the new VW Polo 2009 has been built drawing inspiration from the car maker’s earlier model VW Scirocco, a three-door coupe.
To be built on the popular PQ25 platform, which incidentally is the same as the previous generation Polo, the new Vokswagen Polo 2009 will come with a 2470mm wheelbase. It is also believed that Volkswagen will also build a new sedan variant around the new Polo.
The sedan version of the new Polo will be exclusively made for India and Russia. The Volkswagen Polo, though the same size as the Maruti Swift, Hyundai Getz and the new Tata Indica, will defintiely be positioned much higher though as a premium hatchback.
Volkswagen registered a 66 percent growth in India from January to October 2008. The three group companies, such as Audi, VW and Skoda, have already during the past ten months delivered as many as 16,695 cars in India. This number is as against 10,055 cars sold in the same period during last year.
Volkswagen has said that the new Polo has been developed by the company internally for the Indian market and will be produced at its manufacturing facility in Pune. The new plant will boast of an initial capacity of 1,10,000 units by 2009.
