VW Jetta bags Autocar India award

Motoring magazine Autocar India has picked Volkswagen Jetta as the ‘Executive Car of the Year 2009′.

Autocar Indi’a award aims at recognising and choosing the car that symbolises quality, driveability and performance. The India car mart has proved very succesful for Jetta, which has managed to lure more customers to dealerships.

The Volkswagen Jetta, which comes with business-like feel and extreme comfort, has been sought after by motoring enthusiasts for its superior drive quality, robustness and stylish design. The award from Autocar is seen as a benchmark for excellence in India and is widely recognized as the most trusted word on automobiles for consumers, manufacturers and auto experts.

The Volkswagen Jetta is assembled in Aurangabad. During the last five months, Volkswagen has successfully delivered 1000 Jettas to customers in India, exceeding its sales target.

As a part of the 2009 Autocar Awards, 16 cars and eight bikes were tested and judged by an eminent jury. With the award being bestowed on the model, the company sees the laurel as having established the Jetta as a world class car which meets all the global standards of safety, design and performance.

Volkswagen is the biggest brand within the Volkswagen Group and also the largest carmaker in Europe and in Germany. The brand sells its broad model range from the Fox to the Phaeton in more than 150 countries worldwide, said the company.

The Passat launched in September 2007 and the Jetta in July 2008 have made Volkswagen’s first India produced models add to it brand value in the country. The company is also currently offering Phaeton and the Touareg models as direct imports.
