Volvo Car Indis has kicked off a new dealership in the national capital New Delhi. The company which began India operations with just three dealers, is now planning to expand with seven more. The new outlets will come up at cities such as Kochi, Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad, Pune and Kolkata.
Currently Volvo sells Volkswagen Passat and Jetta in India.
The company believes that the expansion of dealer network is testimony to the importance of the Indian market to Volvo Cars and. Volvo Car India will look at the Indian potential and evolve startegies to capitalize on it, the officials said.
The dealerships that are to come up in various locations will provide the best possible services to customers. The company is said to be even ready to wait and watch the evolution of the Indian luxury car market before it goes for the kill. Volvo, though it has created a dealer infrastructure that boast of the best features, is looking for more. It was in March 2009 that Volvo Car India made its entry into India. In 2008, Volvo sold 100 units which were imported into the country in CBU format.
Volvo Car India has been reportedly keenly watching the volume growth in India and has found that it has not been as expected. It believes that the luxury cars show a tendancy to slow down even slower than other segments but at the same time they manage to catch up sooner too. While the passenger car market in India is believed to be worth 1.4 million units and total number of luxury cars sold is 8,000 units, Volvo Car India will be looking at the import duty space and will be exploring the furture trend in this regard.
