The Jetta, I find, is NOT suitable for Indian roads. And the company apparently is unconcerned and unresponsive. I had purchased a Jetta in Jan09 and last month I had to drive through a rough patch of road like a few internal roads in India are , and I was driving carefully to avoid running into a pothole at a fast speed. After that the car started wobbling at a speed of 75khph. On check up by the dealer it was found that all 4 Wheel rims had been dented and NOT REPAIRABLE. The company is not answering .

I have a first generation Jetta bought from Germany in 1982. It has given me an excellent service so far.
Its a diesel version and gives above 20 km per liter of diesel. As with most European cars the AC is not very effective. A sense of security is there when I travel in that. Its LHD and it is a novelty here.
It is a robust car and as the manufacturers say it is made for a lifetime.

High Prices mean exclusive car for first 6 months - after which dents and scratches take away the sheen. Finally after 2 years you worry about spares - then the whole exclusive car game is over. You get exclusively robbed night & day by a workhop which is also the only one in town/ country.

Adding insult to injury will be the OEM - if they need more volumes they drop prices by 20% on localization making you look foolish to trust the brand. But worst case is often so hopeless that they shelve the model and launch another one....leaving you looking like a rare fool for another 8 years because the original car was expensive and hence there is no resale market for it. Ask owners of Opel Vectras, Nissan Xtrails and Ford Mondeos ...

I really doubt, if the VW will reduce the cost of the current variants.
Interestingly they have placed it just below Laura. Their target thus is very clear.

Jetta, in my opinion, would offer a very safe ride. You will not feel bad about the components used in the car. They are of high quality. There are quite a few differential pluses like these.

However, VW should consider offering better package for the Trendline variants, especially the Petrol to compensate for the lack of a powerful engine.

I agree that its a Volkswagen and that its an international Brand. But the pricing is a little too high for the Indian Market. I feel the price range should be 9-13 lakhs to make it highly viable.

I have received any indication about a reduction in the Price. Also 10 th generation Toyata Corolla with 1.8 Ltr Engine is Debuing in Sept08 with a price tag indicated at below 13.00 lacs with amazing features.
Paying 13.00 lacs for a 1.6 Ltr enngine car is an unwise decission somebody has to make, considering the new cars coming to India very shortly.
