We have been giving about the Volkswagen Beetle for more than an year now.  We have had more than a few articles about the proposed launch of the Beetle published so far on this site. (You can see them all at the bottom of this story)

Volkswagen is Europe’s largest carmaker and already sells the Jetta and Passat sedans and the Touareg SUV in India.  The company  owns Skoda and Porsche whose vehicles are already being soared in India.

The news was originally reported by PTI.  The report went on to say that the expected launch date of the Volkswagen Beetle was revealed to the Indian Media on the sidelines of the India economic summit.  The executive who talked to the media added that the the PTI would be important to India from the Mexican plant of Volkswagen as a completely built unit (CBU).  Volkswagen, however, refused to reveal any details about the expected price of the Beetle in India.

Most automobile enthusiasts around the world have agreed that the current Volkswagen Beetle is a worthy successor to the original people’s car.  Sadly, when the latest generation Beetle comes to India, it is hardly going to be a people’s car in our market.  As a CBU, it will definitely be priced among the luxury cars in India as a flagship model for the company.  Not to worry, if a people’s car is what we need, we already have the Tata Nano and the old favourite Maruti 800 anyway!
