Ultra Motor to boost India sales network

Realising the importance of the Indian two wheeler market, UK-based electric two-wheeler maker Ultra Motor is lining up plans to boost its sales network in the country on a large scale.

It may be recalled that Ultra Motor India had parted ways from its joint venture with Hero Group last year and decided to operate alone in India.

According to a company official, Ultra Motor would increase its sales network to up to 180 by the coming March. It has been found by the company that India remains one of the largest two-wheeler markets in the world and it is an important market for the company. This has spurred Ultra Motor to look at ahving an added presence in the form of more deaerships.Ultra Motor India, which currently has over 160 exclusive dealerships across 120 towns in 17 states across the country, will increase its distribution further, in over 180 showrooms across India by March 2009, he said.

In line with this plan, Ultra Motor would bring in added organic growth by making in-roads into semi-urban markets, the official added. It will also kick off a handful of below-the-line initiatives during the next financial year, he said. Ultra Motor will be pumping in Rs 140 crore in India during the next three years. The money will go into product development, marketing and distribution. Ultra Motor India said it eyes a growth of over 50 per cent during the current fiscal.

Ultra Motor had, in June 2008, launched its Marathon electric scooter in India on a succesful note. The global electric vehicle company had launched its Marathon in the country for a price of Rs 31,047 . The Marathon had proved itself successful with the young customers opting for the bike. The Marathon two-wheeler boasts of running 100 km on a single charge.
