TVS Apache RTR FI 160 cc motorcycle launched

Wednesday, July 16, 2008, 9:22

Last week, TVS Motor launched the successor to the much loved Apache RTR motorcycle – the RTR FI.

The big change is electronic fuel injection. The older RTR had a carburetted engine, while the RTR FI will have electronic fuel injection, with all its attendant benefits. Better power delivery, slightly better fuel efficiency… Pricing is a bit if a disappointment – Rs 7000 more than the carburetted RTR 160.

The displacement is 159.7cc from a fuel injected single cylinder motor. The Apache RTR FI produces 15.76 bhp at 8500 RPM, good enough for a top speed of 120 kmph. That is some 0.5 bhp more than the older RTR. Maximum torque is 13.1Nm at 6500rpm.

There is an optional rear disk brake available now for better stopping power. That, and the slightly different graphics and the engine cowl below are the only visual differences.

The Apache RTR FI has an innovative digital dash though can be used to keep track of your 0-60 kmph timings as well as top speeds achieved.

TVS Motor is counting on the Apache RTR FI to add another 500-1000 units to its current sales volume.

The ex-showroom price of the TVS Apache RTR FI 160 will be Rs 64,990 in New Delhi. We have heard reports that it will cost much higher in Mumbai and Chennai – so the only way to find out is to go meet your local TVS dealer. The new Apache RTR FI motorcycles should have reached all dealers by now.

At this moment, there is no further information on the RTR FI.

If you managed to get a test ride of the RTR FI, do leave a note in the comments below. Comments are moderated, so expect to see them published within the hour, normally.

The pickup is less than the carburetted version, The feel of Power is much less than the 2008 carburetted beast. Not tested enough to beleive all the claim. did not match the hype & expectation it generated.

The vehicle is not up to anyones expertation it has a very high vibrating body at speeds above 90 or 100…and there is no improvement in any ways as that of the rtr160… low pick up is a thing to look out for…the only speciality is da rear disc…

    Hi budddies

would you please let me know what are thwe avilable show room in chennai to buy a rtr 160 fi and the exact price of the bike including onroad

  22. Sumit Dev said on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, 3:46

    Hey Guys,
I have been to the TVS showroom and fascinated by the beauty of the beast. RTR 160 costs 66K (approx), with rear drum brakes. If u want both disk brakes, add 3K, if u want Fi, add another 4K. So RTR Fi 160 costs u around 74K. I dont knnow about average but seems to be around 40 kmpl. From all the duscussion above I am going to buy RTR 160 with rear drum brakes. As what I think rear disc brakes may create a problem as they are too hard, its utter waste.
    So folks…choose good.

I drove this bike yesterday..Was flattered by the intitial pickup, but everything else look faultered..The bike has continous vibrations that are very heavy on the hands, definitely driving is not a pleasure in this bike..i have been driving my pulsar for many years now, only after driving this bike i realised how much worth my bike is.. even the design of this bike is odd and looks harsh on the eyes.. im above 6ft,and cudnt find a suitable driving position..the bike loses it’s thrust once it reaches 60kmp, it vibrates and doesn’t responds to the acceleration…maneuvarability was difficult,i don’t know why..Gears are very very hard, and without wearing shoes you could definitely hurt your feet..
This is the first TVS product which i have ever driven, it left me wondering how products like this keep coming to the market depsite such competition..TVS has a very very long way to go..
