We all know that Toyota will have one major launch for India at the Auto Expo 2010. That would be the Etios small car, expected to come in both sedan and hatchback versions.

The car in the ad: Toyota Etios sedan?

The theme of Toyota for the 2010 Auto Expo would be ‘Quality Revolution’. Should work for them – Japanese manufactuers Honda and Toyota are synonymous for quality cars and of course, social status in India.

Have you noticed the new Toyota ad which comes on Indian TV channels and now, on automobile websites you visit? The Quality Revolution ad is specifically about the new Toyota Etios. And interestingly, the car which appears in the ad is a sedan.

The Etios was originally called the EFC, or the Entry Family Car. As India is a major small car market, and the focus of the Auto Expo 2010 is going to be small cars from a bunch of automobile companies, we thought it would be natural that Toyota would be focusing on the hatchback version of the Etios. But no, the ad seems to show a sleek, elegant sedan the shadows. It goes on to say, “First for India, then for the world.” Interesting.

The Etios sedan and hatchbacks that we would see in the Toyota pavilion at the Auto Expo though would be the prototype. Actual launch is at least an year away, and possibly two. There is no information about the price and specs of the vehicle either – and obviously a lot could change by the time of the launch. We are hoping for a diesel.

We expect to grab a handful of photos of the Etios sedan and hatchback at the Auto Expo, come first week of January. Keep checking back!
