How about a ‘light painting’ of the Ford Figo to add a bit of menace?
Everyone loves a car that is sleek, sophisticated and menacing. And since the Figo is miles from being even mildly menacing, we thought we’d streak this “propah” image with a layer of meanness.

How's that for an angry face? Photo by Avneesh Kumar
And with time and Figo at our disposal, we managed a makeover that verges on macho, even if we say so ourselves.
Nothing major, just some serious fooling around with a photography technique called light painting. A simple search on Google will enlighten you on what light painting is all about. In a nutshell, you keep the camera’s shutter open and use your torch as Darth Vader would his light saber. The camera records the trajectory of the light from the torch, and there you have an outline of the Figo, painted with light!
Cool, eh? Three hours are what went into creating this.
It might seem lightheaded, but we did manage to give the Figo an uncharacteristically mean streak!
Now don’t just stare and salute our genius! Flex your fingers on the keyboard. And, while at it, why not join in the fun and send us even more unusual Figo photos? We’re sure you can do better than us.
And here is a question for you: If you had the freedom to do something crazy with a Figo, what would you do? Let us know in the comments. Regular comments and questions are welcome, as always!

Turn on the pink (paint) lights and the macho machine might just become a girl’s best friend too

Very cool picture. I looked up the technique after reading your article and it sounds like something that might be a fun experiment. I’m not sure the Figo really fits this kind of makeover though – it really seems at home with it’s regular, “I’m a deranged labrador” look

Personally speaking i’d like to thrash the car in a junkyard.
Jokes apart, why not make viral videos of the car menacing around, skidding around to create images/drawings/messages on sand with tyre trails. Something close to the end of the “crazy” video by aerosmith where the tractor writes crazy on the fields.

Either you love this car or hate this car…but you cannot ignore the buzz it has created in the small/mid size segment of the auto industry. Ford has always been a big name and we always associated Ford as a high-end luxury car maker… but this time Ford has done something which is a confluence of luxury and affordability — and this is Ford Figo! I seriously feel that this buzz is here to stay… for a longer time

This is no doubt, a very funky idea. But if you ask me to do something funky to Figo, I have a good idea. We all love listening to music while driving don’t we? So, my idea is to paint my Figo with striking colours and images based on music. It could be anything.. say a painting of a rock band? How ’bout giving the Figo an all-new punk image?

What I want to know is why they named something so unthreatening after one of the coolest attacking midfielders of our generation. Surely there are better tributes we can pay to Luis Figo than naming a car that probably couldn’t score with its own wife.
Enough mixed metaphors for ya?

What I’d love to do is to convert the back seat into a foldable bed, fix a TV & DVD player, and spend the rest of my life driving my Figo with my beloved, listening to music, watching movies, going places I’ve never been before.

I would want to turn it into a sports car with some spoilers, some lights in the bottom, a jazzed up rally car painting…but too hard to say as i think the teal interior, with matching seat colors and black exterior is a perfect one

Woah! This is like Sita aur Gita… Haha. I would now love to see an advertisement where Figo and this earlier version both high five and race off… The two cars can have drastically different lives with their two types of drivers. The car can be both for the macho and the meek… And be as cool

Great work. This has given me great ideas. I will give a batman theme to it. Will get a pair of stickers each for the tail lamp and the head lamp. The best way to transform the mama’s boy to the night prowler that it should be, is by giving it some Tattoos. Silver tattoos on a green or black Figo. Since its a Batman’s Figo, Batman tattoos, it shall be. Will share the link once I do a computer simulation

Ajit, thanks for sharing the tips on how to make camera setting changes. I’ve been trying to gather cooler ways to use my cam.
I’m not a big fan of Figo, but this sure does make it look more trendier
Gaurav Jha said on Thursday, July 29, 2010, 23:42
BTW, I saw one on the road a couple of days back and it doesn’t look as small as I initially thought. Looks like a cool new car in the small car segment.

The Figo is posed as a car in Indian colors. Wonder what they mean by “Indian Colors”.

One of the problems i have seen with most compact cars is how adaptable its for tall people. Tall in the sense atleast above 6ft. if you could give us poor people a heads up about that, it would be helpful. i liked the way its interior looks with bluetooth car stereo and i heard pretty good mileage too. i am eagerly following the article, and am sure it would erase my other prejudices about compact cars. great work dude..keep’em coming.
