The wait for the Tata Nano might soon be over. Tata Motors has said that the base model as well as the fully loaded version of the Rs 1 lakh car would be launched by end of February 2009.

The company is expected to pump in an extra $435 million for the production of Tata Nano, so that the cars reach dealerships on time. According to Tata sources, the car maker is likely to produce as many as 7000 vehicles by the end of March at its plant. The number is likely to be scaled up to 80,000 over the next year.

Tata Motors is said to be lining up a target of making at least 150,000 Tata Nano cars by year 2010-2011. This seems achievable as the company has wants to see to it that the Rs 1 lakh car would be lapped up all over the country. The wait had been prolonged a bit, but the enthusiasm still runs strong even in the smaller towns.

With this realization, Tata Motors is doubling its investments for the project. The company is strongly supported by the government which is allowing it to buy land in eight yearly installments, beginning post production.

It was earlier reported that the Nano had come out in the open for the first time ever since its launch at the Delhi Auto Show. The people of Gopeshwar in Chameli district of Uttarakhand got a rare glimpse of the Rs 1 lakh Tata Nano when it was taken out on a tough terrain test drive.

It was then reported that Tata Motors would commercially roll out the Nano during the first quarter of the financial year. With the launch date now being said to be end of February, it seems like the car is ready to hit the roads. Tata Motors has readied its Nano at the mother plant in Gujarat after the Tata group saw itself in a spot following trouble at the first site of Singur in West Bengal.
