Tata Nano launch date, booking details announced

Tata Motors announced on February 26, 2009, that it will launch the much-awaited Tata Nano on March 23, 2009 in Mumbai.

Update: It seems that the initial deposit for booking a Nano is just Rs 2,999. You can book the Tata Nano online. Also, Tata Nano application forms would be available from 9 April, and you can book your car only from then.

Dealers will start accepting bookings for the Tata Nano from the second week of April 2009.

The Tata Nano will be displayed at Tata Motors dealer showrooms starting early April 2009.

Tata Motors has said it will announce the process to book the Tata Nano from the Tata dealerships, on March 23, 2009, at the commercial launch of the Tata Nano.

Initially, Tata Motors will not add any new dealers to its existing dealership network, but it may do so after a few months.

The booking amount for the Tata Nano will be announced on the date of the launch. Unconfirmed reports say that the booking amount is likely to be Rs 70,000.

The Tata Nano will be priced between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 1.34 lakh.

After the launch, initially, Tata Motors will accept bookings of one lakh Tata Nanos till it starts mass production after 2010, by when the new manufacturing facility at Sanand near Ahmedabad will be ready.

The new plant is expected to have a capacity of 5,00,000 units, compared to 3,00,000 for Singur.

In order to meet the demand for the Tata Nano, the company will manufacture the Tata Nano at its Pantnagar plant in Uttarakhand, and its manufacturing facility in Pune. Currently, Tata manufactures 50 Tata Nanos a day at its Pantnagar plant.

The company has said in a statement, “Tata Motors is making arrangements for the widest possible network to book the car, so that prospective customers can conveniently avail of booking facilities at their locations, across the length and breadth of India.”

Meanwhile, the Tatas are not taking any chances with the launch of the Tata Nano. So much so, that on February 20, 2009, one spanking new Tata Nano was dispatched to the Golden Temple in Amritsar, while another was sent to Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti’s dargah in Ajmer, Rajasthan, on February 22, 2009 to invoke divine blessings.

The Tata Nano was first introduced on January 10, 2008, at the the 9th annual Auto Expo, at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

The Tata Nano will be available in three variants, Standard, Deluxe and Luxury. The base model, likely to be priced at $2,500, will not have air conditioning, while the Deluxe variant will have AC and body-colored bumpers.

The luxury variant will have AC, body-colored bumpers, alloy wheels, and fog lamps.
