Tata Nano booking forms available from April 9, 2009

Some details are trickling in about the booking and application process for the Tata Nano.
The Tata Nano booking forms, priced at Rs 300, will be available from April 9, 2009 – April 25, 2009, in over 30,000 outlets.

The places from where you can get an application form will include all Tata Motors dealerships, Westside, Croma, Titan, and Tata Indicom outlets.

The Tata Nano can be booked from the Tata Nano website, as well. Which means what many had asked for – how come there is no online booking for the Tata Nano as its price is something you can spend on a credit card – is now a possibility.

Reports have said that the initial deposit for the Tata Nano is Rs 2,999.

There are rumors that there is no cap on the number of bookings that consumers can make.

It is a different issue altogether if the Tata Nano can meet the burgeoning demand.

There is no information available as yet about the loan options and schemes that will be offered for purchasing the Tata Nano. Financiers are likely to announce their loan rates and schemes in a few days time. The preferred financier, though, for the Nano is State Bank of India.

The Tata Nano will come in three variants, Standard, Deluxe and Luxury. The details of the exact price of the Tata Nano will be available by the evening of March 23, 2009. Maximum applications and bookings are expected for the Tata Nano standard version.

It is expected that the small car will be priced between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 1.34 lakh.

The Standard Tata Nano is likely to  shave a speedometer, odometer, folding rear seats, 2-spoke steering wheel, and no airconditioning, and will come in Bright Red, Ivory White, and Summer Blue.

The Deluxe variant of the Tata Nano will come with air-conditioning/heater, body colored bumpers, reclining/adjustable driver and co-driver seat, speedometer, odometer, 2-spoke steering wheel, and folding rear seats.

It will be available in Bright Red, Ivory White, Summer Blue, Champagne Gold, and Lunar Silver.

The Deluxe variant of the Tata Nano will not have alloy wheels.

The most expensive Tata Nano, its Luxury variant, will have alloy wheels, and fog lamps, along with air conditioning, body-colored bumpers, tripmeter, front power windows, 3-Spoke steering wheel, front and rear fog lamps, and central locking. It will come in colors, such as Champagne Gold, Lunar Silver, and Sunshine Yellow.

The Tata Nano is 3.1 meters in length, 1.6 meters in height, and 1.5 meters in width with a wheelbase of 2230 mm and ground clearance of 180 mm.

The Tata Nano comes with a rear-wheel drive, all-aluminium, two-cylinder, 623 cc, 33 PS, multi point fuel injection petrol (MPFI) engine. This is the first time that a two-cylinder gasoline engine is being used in a car with single balancer shaft, the company has said.

The powertrain of the Tata Nano is in the rear, and the maximum power and maximum torque of the small car is  35 bhp @ 5500 rpm and 4.8 kgm @ 3000 rpm, respectively.

The Tata Nano can rev up from 0 to 60 kph in approximately in 8 Seconds, with a top speed of 105 kph.

Safety features of the Tata Nano include crumple zones, all sheet-metal body, fuel cut-off in case of collision, intrusion-resistant doors, seat belts, strong seats and anchorages, and tubeless tyres.

Future versions of the Tata Nano would include a diesel version, a CVT automatic, a CNG version, a micro-hybrid, an electric version and even possibly an air-powered Nano!

However, all of them would be in serious consideration only in 2010 when the company has managed to satisfy the demand for the petrol version of the Nano which will be launched today.
