Tata Indica Vista launch on Aug 23

Friday, August 22, 2008, 12:10

Tata Motors will launch the latest version of their most popular car Indica on August 23, 2008. The new car will be called Tata Indica Vista. So far, the upcoming Indica has always been referred to as the Indica V3.

Update: The Indica Vista is launched!

Indica Vista: Taking the battle to the Swift diesel!

Indica Vista: Taking the battle to the Swift diesel!

7 variants priced at Rs.3.49 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi for the 1.2L petrol Tata Indica Vista Safire at the low end going upto Rs.4.88 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi for the top end 1.3L Vista Quadrajet. The Indica Vista TDi version comes at nearly the same price as the outgoing existing Indica V2 version.

The Indica Vista is expected to be positioned price and features-wise to compete with the Maruti Suzuki Swift, and the Hyundai models i10 and the Getz. The current and new models of the Indica will co-exist, with a price reduction likely on the existing models.

Inside, the Indica Vista offers a much improved experience to the driver. It is more spacious, and the Vista a bit wider and longer than the last-generation Indica. Two-tone interiors, adjustable driver seat and steering wheel, better door handles and a centrally mounted speedo are the most noticeable changes. The Tata Indica was already quite spacious, and now the wheelbase has increased by 70 mm and the car is longer by 120 mm.

Exterior has been seriously spruced up too. Apart from the overall solid and handsome looks — well, apart from that stupid smiley grill we have to tolerate – the Indica Vista has indicators on Rear veiw mirrors, a roof mounted antenna and smart headlamps.

One significant fact about the new Tata Indica Vista would be that it would feature engines from Tata’s partner company Fiat. The Fiat Multijet engine, which currently does duty in the diesel Suzuki Swift and the Fiat Palio will be offered in the Indica Vista as the Quadrajet engine.

The Indica Vista, in its V3 avatar, was previewed at the Delhi Auto Expo in January 2008. I was there, and I can say with confidence that design and looks-wise, the Vista or V3 as it was known then is a significant improvement over the everyday Indica models we see around everywhere.

Features of the new tata Indica Vista include seating capacity for five, power –assisted rack and pinion steering, independent front suspension and semi independent rear suspension. Safety enhancers include warning buzzers and three-point ELR sea belts.

It is a major disappointment that neither ABS or airbags are offered in the Indica Vista. Considering the traffic situation on our roads and lawlessness, this is a major sin in my opinion. There are Indica models already offering airbags and ABS, so it reflects badly on Tata to offer a newer, better and more sophisticaled version in the Vista without them. Typical of Tata, I am sure they would introduce these a few months down the line – and that makes it worse.

If you are a safety conscious buyer, I strongly suggest you wait till Tata launches a version with airbags and ABS. Airbags, especially are a life-saver.

Built on an all-new platform, the Indica Vista will be slightly larger than the original Indica. The Vista would be powered by a new 1.2-litre petrol engine named Saffire and a 1.3-litre common-rail diesel engine called Quadrajet. The Quadrajet is the Fiat multijet and is being produced by Maruti Suzuki Powertrain for the Swift and Swift Dzire models. These new engines will be apart from Tata’s own 1.4-litre turbo diesel engine.

The petrol version of the Indica Vista is seriously underpowered, we think. The Vista is not a light car, and a 65 bhp petrol engine is not the way to go here. The Quadrajet Indica Vista are the ones to go for, with a maximum torque figure of 190 Nm at 1750 RPM – that is better than what the same engine delivers in the diesel Swift! It all comes down to gear ratios, of course about how it woudl work on the road.

Sure, the 1.4 liter turbo Indica Vista will be cheaper, but you will be sacrificing driving comfort and smoothness if you go for it. Better leave that to the taxi market.

I am fan of Made in India INDICA

I did try my first car as Indica in first lot however couldn’t get in first 10,000. Got the number in nxt 70,000 however couldn’t buy that time due to other priorities and some what disappointment of not getting in first lot.

Then I picked up Indica V2 Diesel. Very satified customer, used it for 6 year done 90,000 kms is still going well.

Now I am proud owner of Indica V2 Dicor. Again what I was missing in ealier car is enjoyable in this car the pickup and power.

Will wait for my third Indica for next 4/5 year and will pickup the hybrid one. I am sure TATA motors will come up with one by that time.

Many of us are complaining about Indica being used as Taxi. Really looking at, Taxi Drivers’ heavy usage, complaints and repeated banging made Tata to improve the car in a major way and made the car far more reliable.

  20. vinayak joshi said on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, 10:15

i think tata should think about hybrid vehicle, because it is todays need,we are indian who are always behind in competition with world.

Excellent !!! Good value for money. I test drove Indica Vista – Aura in Mumbai last week and found it a good driving experience. Ride was smooth and handlind was so soft, I had to pinch myself to believe I was inded driving a Indica. A/C is powerful, hardly any engine noise inside the car. The door closing andopening is of international quality, do not miss the sound when you close the door.

All in all I love it and booked the car for delivery within 30days.

    Hi!

Congrats to everyone concerned at TATA company for launching the latest avtar of Indica.

Quite obviously it is much better looking than the present model. Front has improved considerably with new clear lense headlights, though smiley grill doesn’t do much justice with overall personality of the car.

Same is true for the rear end. It would have been soo much better had Tata changed the rear end light cluster to some innovative LED design.

With double tone layout interiors are refreshing. Under the hood Fiat’s diesel Quadrajet would prove the best seller.

However, the biggest let down is noticeable absence of ABS and Airbags. It’s almost criminal to launch a new car/model in todays competitive market without an upmarket model without all the regular goodies.

If TATA wan’t to change and improve it’s image for an Indian cab car producing company to serious global automobile manufacturer it needs more than fancy new products… TATA needs complete change of mindset… The biggest perusite? The company needs desire to be the No. 1 and think like one…

Dear Mr. Rattan Tata and your entire team,

CONGRATULATIONS for doing India proud by launching the true Indian Car – Indica 10 years ago. Also now for the new INDICA VISTA.

Please DON’T OFFER IT AS TAXICABS.It would be a shame and let us customers down. Most others also have voiced this view.

Please upgrade to ABS and AIRBAGS atleast in the topend models, if not all.

The front grill looks ok but surely you could have approved of a better tail light cluster.

It’s an eyesore right from the start of Indica’s launch itself resembling the horns of an Indian Bison or Gaur.

Would appreciate it if you could lower the cost a bit for middle class citizens to afford a good car from your stable.

Lastly, not the least, offer GAS KIT installed versions instead of petrol or better the mileage to make this car a runaway success among cars in its class.

Hats of to you and your team once again in conclusion, for waking the world with the much awaited “world’s cheapest car” – the NANO.

Our entire family would like you to know that we are proud of you. May your tribe increase.

    JAI HIND.

Dear Editor : I have strong faith in TATAS and will remain always,,,,,The new VISTA and ofcource NANO may not be everyones first choice but it symbolyses our Esteem and strong Presence in the automotive industries across the world….So pl welcome the new Baby hug it and cheer…..!!

    Hi,

I would have have defintely tout of buying this new breed of indica however as an environmentalist i would appreicate if we go green and produce cars which run on bio fuel, hydrogen and battery fuel.

I see many indica cabs runnin all over creating pollution but if u guys can think about alternate fuel that can save our earth.

I do appreicate your commitment on getting new varient of indica which runs on battery and it is highly commendable but if you guys can start going green this would make other car manufactures think twice before launching there obvious petrol and desiel version and your thinking can also impact the industry.

coming to the new indica vista itz zillion times better than itz ancestor indica.. as every one suggested please do not sell this to consumers who want to use it as CAB’s or Taxis..

    Cheers
    Sai
