Tata, Ford, Honda, General Motors sales rise in September 2009

Tata Motors, Ford India, Honda Siel Cars India, and General Motors India have posted a rise in their sales in September 2009.

Tata Motors sold a total of 52,513 vehicles – including exports – in September 2009, compared to 49,647 vehicles sold in September 2008. This is a growth of 6%.

Domestic sales of Tata’s commercial and passenger vehicles for September 2009 stood at 49,650 – which is a 10% increase over the 45,234 commercial and passenger vehicles sold in September 2008.

The company’s cumulative sales (exports included) for the fiscal stood at 273,491 vehicles, compared to 265,709 vehicles sold in the last fiscal – an increase of 3%.

Tata sold 31,474 commercial vehicles in September 2009 in the domestic market. This shows a 10% growth.

Sales of LCV in September 2009 were 18,454 numbers, recording an increase of 16% over September a year ago.

Sales of M&HCV in September 2009 were 13,020 vehicles, a growth of 2% over September 2008. And, this is the third successive month of growth for Tata’s M&HCV.

The company’s cumulative sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market for this fiscal were 161,700 units – accounting for an increase of 11% over the last fiscal. While the cumulative sales of LCV were 100,278 vehicles (up by 30% compared to a year before), the sales of M&HCV stood at 61,422 – which was down by 11% from last year.

Tata Motors’ total sale and distribution offtake of passenger vehicles stood at 20,743 vehicles (18,176 Tata + 2,567 Fiat) in the domestic market in September 2009 (a 23% rise), compared to 16,829 vehicles in the same month a year ago (16,586 Tata + 243 Fiat).

Sales of Tata cars went up by 19% to 15,802 numbers. Sales of the Tata Nano were 2,524 vehicles. In all, 9,858 Tata Indica cars were sold – a growth of 15% over September 2008. The Indigo range registered sales of 3,420 cars – down by 27%. Sales for the Sumo/Safari range were 2,374 numbers – lower by 28.5%r.

The company’s cumulative sales and distribution offtake of passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal numbered 111,461 vehicles (98,568 Tata + 12,893 Fiat), compared to 100,336 vehicles (97,929 Tata + 2,407 Fiat) a year ago – posting a growth of 11%. Cumulative sales of the Nano car stood at 7,500 numbers; and cumulative sales of the Tata Indica were at 56,868 (up by 15%). As for the Indigo family, the cumulative sales accounted for 18,498 cars – down by 31%. The cumulative sales of the Sumo/Safari range stood at 15,702 vehicles, again, down by 27.5%.

Tata Motors’ exports were 2,863 vehicles in September 2009, compared to 4,413 in September 2008. Cumulative sales from exports for this fiscal were 13,223 numbers, as against 22,040 in the same period a year ago.

Ford India achieved an impressive 50% growth in sales in September 2009, compared to September 2008. The company sold 3,405 vehicles in September 2009 as against 2,273 units in September a year ago.

September 2009 has been one of the best-selling months for Ford India in the current year, posting a 38% sales increase on month-on-month basis, compared to August 2009. The third quarter of 2009 also showed a 24% increase, compared to the third quarter a year ago.

According to Nigel Wark, executive director (marketing, sales and service) of Ford India, there has been an “overwhelming response” to the company’s product line-up, with the demand for the Ford Ikon and the Ford Fiesta continuing to be strong.

Ford India had recently launched the new-look Ford Endeavour 3.0L with 5-speed automatic transmission, as well as unveiled its forthcoming small car Ford Figo at an event in New Delhi.

Honda Siel Cars India, the leading maker of premium cars, sold 5,794 vehicles and posted a whopping 86.7% increase in sales in September 2009, compared to 3,104 units in the same month a year ago.

The cumulative sales of Honda in the fiscal April-September 2009 was 27,521 vehicles – up from 23,461 units sold in September 2008, with a rise of 17.3% in sales.

As a part of its efforts to focus on new models during the festival season, Honda launched the new Honda Civic and the new Honda City in September 2009.

General Motors India reported a 48.51% leap in its sales at 7,654 vehicles in September 2009 – the highest-ever monthly sales the company achieved in the domestic market. It had sold a total of 5,154 units in September 2008.

General Motors’ small car Chevrolet Spark reported an increase of over two-fold in its sales, at 4,706 units – which is also the highest sales since the Chevrolet Spark was launched.

The company’s sales in September 2009 consisted of 1,329 numbers of the multi-utility vehicle Chevrolet Tavera; 424 units of the sedan Chevrolet Aveo; 753 units of the hatchback Aveo U-Va; 123 numbers of Chevrolet Captiva; as well as 319 units of the luxury sedan Chevrolet Optra.
