Tata armored Safari for civilians
launched
15 October, 2007 Tata has rolled
out
its range of armored vehicles for high
net worth individuals (HNIs), such as
businessmen and political leaders. The
armored vehicles will be used for
specialized defense applications.
This is the latest offering from the
Tatas, which has been supplying about
7,000 vehicles to the armed forces
annually. A report said that Tata
Motors
has lined up land mine-proof as well
as bullet-proof vehicles on the Safari
platform for HNIs.
The company has come out with its
armored Safari with features like
hand-grenade protection for under
belly through fine tuned suspension
and heating ventilation air
conditioning. Besides, it can also run
on flat tires and will have explosive
suppressant material in the fuel tank.
The vehicle comes with five exit
doors. According to a Tata official,
the armored Safari would sport
National Institute of Justice (NIJ)
Level III features.
Meanwhile, the company has also said
that its new indigenously made armored
bus would come with features like
shatter-proof glass and side bomb
protection with firing ports.
The new vehicle which was put on show
at an expo that coincides with the
Military Games currently underway in
Hyderabad, is expected to attract the
crowds.
It had been earlier reported that the
Indian Army was all set to see a
Humvee blaze its trail into its
territory through the Mahindra Axe.
The armored vehicle from Mahindra &
Mahindra, was reportedly being being
built as per Indian Army
specifications.
Reports had said that the vehicle is
an IPR of the Mahindras and even the
engine was being indigenously
developed. Two prototypes have already
been developed for Army testing. The
Mahindra Axe is expected to come both
as open and hard-top versions, capable
of mounting artillery.
