The ultra cheap compact vehicle from Tata Motors will debut at the Delhi Auto Show in January 2008. Finally.

Tata Motors will unveil its low-cost car, better known as the Rs 1-lakh car, on January 10, 2008 at a special ceremony during the expo. The commercial launch of the car will take place later in 2008.

The auto expo will see the first public presentation of the low-cost car. This is in keeping with the company's tradition of presenting a new model at an auto expo.

Tata Motors would be a part of the New Delhi Auto Expo jointly with Fiat India Automobile at a pavilion spread over an area of 5,200 sq m. This pavilion will have on display a whole array of new passenger vehicles, both from Tata Motors and Fiat. A report has said that the Italian car major would display passenger cars from its international range, while the Tatas would showcase its commercial vehicles, including its buses from the joint venture with Marcopolo of Brazil.

VW too gears up

Meanwhile, Volkswagen is all set to make its debut at the New Delhi Auto Show.

Volkswagen has said that it would make its maiden entry during the auto expo by showcasing its premium sedan Passat and its sports utility vehicle Touareg. These apart, the company will also put on show its concept car UP! and its compact car Jetta. The Passat had been launched in India September 2008.

The car major hopes to make the Delhi expo a platform to announce more models slated to be launched very soon.
