Mercedes used carsare already available in India from a variety of dealers in the unorganised sector; and officially making used Mercs available for purchase would provide some amount of guarantee to the buyer on the quality of the car.
For almost more than a decade, Mercedes Benz held the number one position in India for most number of sales in the luxury car segment. But BMW overtook their arch rival selling 270 units in January 2009, whereas Mercedes Benz could only manage 170.
Mercedes Benz is now a well-established presence in India in the luxury car market, even though BMW is nipping at its heals. The company came to India 15 years back in association with Tata Motors, and later struck out on its own, and has done well too.
