As part of a strategy to develop small cars that run on alternative fuel technology, Maruti Suzuki is working on rolling out electric cars and compressed natural gas (CNG) variants for three or four of its models, Business Standard has reported.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor will launch a CNG version of its Toyota Innova in end-January 2009. The CNG Innova will cost Rs 75,000 - Rs 90,000 extra, including warranty and installation costs.
Fiat enthusiasts in India will get to drive a CNG version of its much-loved but slow-selling Palio model. The CNG variant of Palio is expected to be rolled out in a month’s time.
The LPG and CNG versions of the Renault Logan seem to be just a couple of months away.
