24 April, 2007 In an attempt to take on mid-size market leader Honda City, the country’s premier auto maker Maruti is readying its new mid-size car SX4. The launch is expected in May.
The car, which will boast of a new platforms and a new engine strategy, will take the place left vacant by the phased out model Baleno. However, reports said that it will most likely be positioned higher in the mid-size market to take Honda City. The SX4 is likely to debut in the local car dealer’s showroom with as much as 79 per cent local content. The car will proclaim the arrival of Maruti’s third platform. The new platform reportedly ties in with an engine strategy to cover both Euro4 and Euro5 compatibility. The carmaker also plans to bring in a fourth one soon above the SX4 platform.
The two platforms which support the
carmaker’s A and B segment models will
give way to the new one. Maruti
believes that many a car customer who
had left Maruti looking for an upgrade
is sure to come back as and when the
Suzuki SX4 hits Indian roads. Reports
added that Maruti is currently in the
process of phase localisation of the
MSeries engine of the Suzuki SX4, of
which the first phase is complete.
The company, meanwhile, has seen its newly unveiled diesel Swift clocking 2,500 units in sales, while the original petrol version sells about 4,500 units.
