Suzuki Splash India launch in 2009 Jan

Car major Maruti Suzuki will launch its Suzuki Splash model by the beginning of 2009. The Suzuki Splash, which is built on a fresh platform and boasts of European styling influences, is being positioned between successful models such as the Zen Estilo and Swift.

Update: The Suzuki Splash will come to India as Suzuki Ritz!

Suzuki Splash petrol first, diesel later?

The Suzuki Splash, which brought out in three different models, will occupy prime place in the A-segment as the planned A-Star from the Maruti Suzuki stables. The car will come in two petrol and one diesel versions and will boast of a five-speed manual gearbox. Suzuki Splash will also adhere to European anti-emission standards. The Splash will come with a very refined and fuel efficient 1.2L petrol and the award-winning 1.3L multijet (DDiS) diesel engines. However, we do not know if the diesel version of the Splash would be launched initially. If we go by what Maruti Suzuki has done in the past, we are likely to see the petrol Splash launch in India first, and six months later, the diesel Splash would follow.

Our last story on Suzuki Splash at Auto Expo

The concept Splash we saw at Paris 2007 had quite a few European influences. But European cues or not, the high seating position, good visibility and spacious interiors are now essential staple for small cars. It is a recipe that has not failed so far, and it is unlikely to fail in the case of the Splash either.

The Suzuki Splash will be a 3.72 m-long, 1.6metres tall and 1.7metre wide car and would provide ample additional storage space.

Suzuki Splash will replace WagonR

The Suzuki Splash will have an estimated price of Rs 4 –Rs 5.5 lakh. The Splash talk has all in it to replace the popular Wagon-R. Suzuki had showcased the Splash concept at last Paris Motor Show 2007. The concept had promised bold styling which was widely acclaimed. The fashionably large grill, large headlights and the kink in the rear were loved by many.

We are not sure that last element though. That is a bit too camp, I think. But the rest of the Splash holds together well indeed.

The car is likely to be the natural choice for the Maruti Suzuki’s next small car launch in India and is in line to replace the WagonR model. However, an official confirmation on this has not yet come.
