Suzuki launches GSX1300R Hayabusa, M1800R in India

The world’s fastest motorcycle has debuted on the Indian tarmac. Suzuki India has brought in the Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa into the country, hoping for sales among the enthusiast biking population in India – and who can afford it.

Suzuki hopes to tell the country that the launch of the Hayabusa would herald the arrival of more big bikes in India very soon. Along with the Hayabusa GSX1300R, Suzuki India also launched its extra powerful 1783cc V-twin cruiser motorcycle, the M1800R in an attempt to complement the hyper sport speed with some chrome presence, said a report.

The company has tagged both the GSX1300R Hayabusa and the M1800R with a price of Rs 12.5 lakh, ex-showroom across the country. It has in the meanwhile also announced that more performance bikes from the Suszuki assembly line will be brought to India within the next six month period.

The company is gearing up for a marketing spree and is expected to sell the two motorcycles through eight select dealerships across the country. The dealerships are currently located at Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore.

Suzuki India has also said that it would be looking at investing close to Rs 150 crore by year 2010-11 in the country. The aim is to boost capacity from the current level of 1.75 lakh units per annum to 4.5 lakh units. It is aiming at a 25 per cent market share in segments where it is present, said a report.

Suzuki India in fact looks at tapping a huge chunk of segments such as 4-stroke gearless scooters, 125cc and 150cc. While the company currently boasts of sales close to 10,000 units a month in the 125cc scooter segment, it is now looking at 25,000 units a month to push up market share to 25 per cent.
It is expected that the company will soon bring in models like 110 cc, 125 cc, 150 cc and 180 cc in the motorcycle categories and the 125 cc or 150 cc bikes in the scoter segment.
