Maruti Suzuki, foreseeing huge demand, has kick started efforts aimed at increasing production of its global car A-Star.
The car maker is said to be anticipating huge demand for the A-Star keeping in line with the acceptance toward premium compact cars in the domestic market.

Maruti Suzuki had earlier earmarked 50,000 units of the A-Star small car for the Indian domestic market. This will now go up.
The Suzuki A-Star was recently revealed at the Paris Motor Show to much acclaim. Many were disappointed that the production A-Star is not as impressive as the A-Star concept that was displayed at the 2008 Auto Expo in New Delhi in January.
The new model which conforms to BS-III emission norms and also boasts of lower CO2 emissions is being dubbed by the automotive industry as soon-to-be the new flagship product for Maruti Suzuki in place of Alto.
What would make the A-Star unque is that it would be the only model in the world which will have 750 variants as it will be sold across 151 countries including Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, Asia and Africa. The car will have different names like Suzuki Alto Celerio, Maruti Suzuki A-Star, Nissan Pixo, and will also have different specifications in markets it is to be sold. To be fitted with the new generation K-Series engine, the A-Star is likely to hit dealerships in India in November 2008.

Suzuki A-Star production in India for European markets
The Suzuki A-Star would be a five-door hatchback and would be rolled out of the car maker’s plant at Manesar. The car, all set to be one of the most environment-friendly cars in India, will see more units coming out of its Manesar plant if there is enough demand. The car has been designed and modelled to meet tough European standards and is expected to see the company sales graph go up considerably.
