The one millionth Scooty Pep was rolled out of its Mysore Plant recently.
Since its launch, the TVS Scooty Pep had been seeing huge demand. Significantly, the scooterette was launched at a time when the market was moving towards a four stroke acceptance. The TVS model quickly was picked up as the acceptance for it grew in leaps and bounds. It has been pointed out that while the two stroke 60 cc TVS Scooty took 11 years to reach the one million mark, the four stroke version Scooty Pep has taken only six years to achieve this.
Launched in 2004, the model found acceptance among the fairer sex. In a bid to lure more women, the company launched the vehicle in 99 colours, thus creating a firs of sorts.
Besides the Scooty Pep’s feat in India, the two-wheeler manufacturer is also making waves in Bangladesh where the TVS Auto Bangladesh Ltd is finding the mobike market set for a boom in a few years time. It is expected that as many as 100,000 motorcycles will be sold every year in Bangladesh. TVS Auto Bangladesh Ltd (TVS ABL) a 50:50 joint venture between TVS and Sons and Rian Motors Ltd of Bangladesh.
This is the scene the company hopes to capitalize on. It expects to bag a 12 percent market share in next eight months. The joint venture has already kicked off efforts to reach its goal surge forward. It is also expected that the joint venture partner of TVS in Bangladesh would also be expanding into new businesses such as distribution of parts, cars, commercial vehicles and the like.
