The next generation electric car from Reva will debut in India in May this year. The Bangalore-based electric car maker is expected to roll out the new vehicle which will be powered by a Lithium Ion battery pack.
Company sources have said that the new Lithium Ion Reva which would hit dealerships this May would run up to 120 kilometers on Indian roads on a single charge. The brand-new Reva cars were tested under extreme conditions and have been deemed fit for Indian road conditions.
Electric cars have typically suffered fro the problem of extremely short driving range. This meant that they could at best be city runabouts, and you had to return for a charge pretty quickly. A 120 kilometer range could change all that. We have seen some reports which said the range would be 200 – but that is probably not so.
Meanwhile, apart from planning to lift the wraps off its latest electric model, the car maker has also said that it is investing a sizable amount in a second plant . The second car building facility, which is to come up in Bangalore itself will boast of an installed capacity of 30,000 units per year. This facility is expected to make the latest version of its Reva car with lithium ion battery.
Reva is a known name in countries such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Spain, Cyprus, Greece, France and Norway. Distributors in Hungary and Slovenia These countries have also just been signed up and a master importer and distributor is being sought for all remaining European countries.
This apart, the company is also lining up plans to set up a wider distribution network in South America and other parts of Asia.
We hope the company has also worked on the safety aspects of the Reva, which were widely reviled when the car was tested abroad.
