Porsche is planning to launch the hybrid variant of its luxury car, the Porsche Cayenne, in India, by mid-2010. Along with Ferrari and Lamborghini, the two most popularly known sports car makers, Porsche will also push its environmental friendly cars.
News is that, Ferrari and Lamborghini are on the verge of unveiling there hybrid car models.
The Porsche Cayenne will feature a Supercharged Audi 3.0-liter V6 engine with DFI Max Power of 333 Bhp and Maximum Torque of 324 lb-ft.
It is also come equipped with 52-HP, 3-phase synchronous electric motor that adds 221 lb-ft of torque. The car is said to be able to achieve a maximum speed of 86 mph making use of only the electric motor.
Porsche is planning to build a new engine with a fuel efficiency of 11 km/l which is 25 per cent better that the present engine that drives the car only 6 km/l in the city and 8.9 km/l on the highway.
Including the GTS and turbo versions, Porsche currently sells five variants of the Porsche Cayenne in the Indian market. These models are presently imported as a complete unit and are on the expensive side of the price list costing Rs.56 lakhs.
The market for hybrid Cars in India is still in its probation period and keeping the fact in mind that Indian customers have the option of CNG and LPG models for almost all luxury cars, Porsche will have to plan their marketing strategy well.
After the launch of the hybrid Porsche Cayenne, Porsche will launch the hybrid model of its popular Sedan Panamera in 2010.
