Peugeot Citroen looks at India re-entry

In an effort aimed at making a re-entry into India, PSA Peugeot Citroen is looking at sourcing components from India. The company is also mulling over possibilities as well as setting up a production base in India.

The company, which currently does not have a full-scale presence in India, desperately wants to have an India presence. However, the slowdown has brought about tough times and the decision in this regard took a back seat. It has been said that Peugeot would be looking at the sourcing route to get acquainted with the Indian market first. With this aim the company has gone ahead and established a local office in Chennai where sourcing components has already begin.

Meanwhile, Peugeot’s sister brand Citroen is getting itself ready to unveil an array of models in the Indian market. In this regard, it has been pointed out that Peugeot Citroen teams have met officials from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) for inputs on the emission roadmap, road-worthiness rules and policy structure, saida news source.

PSA Peugeot Citroen is already in the big league with its production facilities having manufactured 3,457,000 vehicles during a year ago period. Key statistics said that as many as 14,000 vehicles are produced every day by the Group’s plants, along with 16,000 powertrain components such as engines and gearboxes. The company currently employs close to 90,000 employees work in the production facilities.
