Toyota’s new refreshed Innova seems to be doing a good job of holding its own against the Mahindra Xylo. Since its launch in late January 2009, the new Innova has sold 3,647 units.
The new Toyota Innova was launched in the latter half of January 2009 and its sales have grown at a steady pace ever since its launch. The company in a statement on Friday said that the MPV had performed “well above expectations in all the key regions across North, East, South and West Zones”. Toyota Kirloskar Motor Deputy Managing Director, Marketing, Sandeep Singh hopes to keep the tempo up, “We expect to keep up the momentum in the coming months as well,” he said.

After Toyota discontinued the Qualis in early 2005, the Toyota Innova has ruled the MPV space in India easily outpacing the Tata Sumo. The Innova was extremely popular with the taxi trade, but even large families took to it due to its car-like comfort, space and economy. The Toyota Innova is at present is one of the most economical and environment friendly vehicle among multipurpose vehicles. A while back, Toyota had also launched it in a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered version.

The company believes that Innova will stay ahead in the competition, especially the Mahindra Xylo.

The Xylo has been doing very well in the sales department too. As you can see from this story we published in the beginning of February 2009, Mahindra managed to sell 1788 Xylo vehicles in just two weeks. In February 2009, 2287 units of the Xylo were sold. Compared to that, new Toyota Innova sales of 3647 units don’t look bad at all.

The new refreshed Innova is loaded with better interiors and and offers excellent space and comfort like before. “The extremely positive sales performance of the new Innova is a clear demonstration of our customers’ faith in the time-tested quality, durability and reliability that India’s best-selling MPV stands for.”

The company expects a sale of 4,000 units of the Innova in March 2009, and is not unduly worried on account of the Xylo as of now.
