New Honda Activa scooter launched

The Honda Activa has been around for a lot many years now – and yesterday Honda launched a new version of the Activa priced at Rs 39,800 (ex-showroom Delhi).

The company also announced that they were exiting the geared scooter segment in India. Honda’s motorcycles in India re also doing reasonably well – so the company now plans to focus on gearless scooters and motorcycles.

Currently Honda has a single geared scooter in India – the Eterno.

The new Honda Activa gets 8.8 bhp, higher than the 7 bhp of the earlier version.

The company is targeting an 18 per cent growth in the next fiscal year.

The new Activa variants would sport an entirely different look with the front and rear having been reengineered and redesigned. While engineers at Honda have kept the visage luring with a curvy and aerodynamic styling and redesigned headlamps with halogen bulbs, the rear part is dominated by clear-lens turn indicators. A deluxe variant of the Activa scooter has also been announced, to be available very soon.

Previews of the vehicle say that Activa Deluxe will fall in the top-end acooter category in India. This variant will come complete with additional features and will be priced a bit more than the standard version. Honda will also introduce new practical features with the launch of new Activa, they said.

Engineers have made use of impact resistant ABS plastic panels to reduce the overall weight of the two-wheeler. The new Activa is powered by a 109cc 4-stroke engine producing 8.8 bhp and fuel tank capacity is 5.3 liters.

For such a major two wheeler manufacturer, the company has forgotten to update its website though. The Honda website features the older version of the Activa even 24 hours after the launch!

The new Honda Activa scooter will offer a choice if six colours: Candy Lucid Red, Pearl Sunbeam White, Wild Purple Metallic, Space Silver Metallic, Geny Grey Metallic and Black.

The company has said that the new Activa would be rolled out with both the kickstart and self start options, and would boast of a combined braking system. On the safety front, Honda has made use of its CBS safety system that balances the engagement of both front and rear brakes. The new Activa also comes with a variety of comfort options such as larger storage space, glove box, key shutter and rear tuff-up tube.

Eterno was just a good scooter, it was the only decent geared scooter. I dont know why they stopped with it because it was selling quite well and now the two wheelers have no option of a geared scooter. Is there a kind of regulations that all the geared scooters are no longer in production
