New Ford Ikon launch in November with 1.4 diesel engine, old Ikon prices cut

The Ford Ikon has been around for almost 9 years – and has passed through several minor face-lifts and revisions. Now another big redesign of the much-loved little car is upon us.

AutoCar India published a picture of a the new Ford Ikon with a totally revised front. Take a look at the photo. There is very little by way of detail available as of now, though.

What you can see is a bonnet that is more like the recently launched Ford Fiesta. So you have that big wide open mouth again here on the new Ford Ikon. Not too bad to look at. Much better than the plain-jane look of the current Ford Ikon, in fact. The headlights have been redesigned too, and look much more modern.

AutoCar says that the rear of the new Ikon is pretty much the same, with only minor changes. Interiors are slightly better.

What is big news really is not the redesign, but the diesel engine that the new Ford Ikon would come with. This will be the 1.4 liter diesel which was available in the Fiesta. The Fiesta is a much heavier car, and an engine that could haul it effortlessly would do a lot better in the ultralight Ford Ikon.

The new diesel Ford Ikon could offer serious competition to the Mahindra Renault Logan and the Maruti Suzuki Dzire.

The new Ikon would have some disadvantages, though. For one, it is not really new. This is an old car, make no mistake, and safety and modern creature comforts are not part of the design. But the new old Ford Ikon can make a clean niche for itself as a cheap but powerful diesel car that also looks good.

Preparing for the launch of the new Ford Ikon in November, Ford India recently slashed prices on the current version by some Rs 36,000.

    The cost is fine, but the look is not that good……….. this ‘ll b an economical car if the spares can be revised and brought down for atleast 20-30%

    I am just waiting to have a look of the new offerings from Ford. New Ford Ikon could pose a stiff competition to other similar cars in its class.

    Planning to change my car and am just waiting to see the new ford ikon. I hope this car would just be the right one for me.

    But I also understand that the spares are very costly and hard on maintenance. If thats the case, i dont think I will go for it.

    THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE OLD FIESTA AND THE NEW FORD IKON .     It’s not look like better from front side. Everybody want to (Interior & Exterior) more dashing car looks like at Hyundai Verna.

    Hey man, i think ford should have made some more changes on the exterior of the car.
    I looks somewhat like fiesta from front n they have not made any big changes in the rear too.
    So if the ford wants to re launch the Ford Mania in diesel, they should have done some very drastic changes apart from the good economical pricing.
    After its the car by which ford began its career in India.
    Atleast we can expect this much from Ford…

    not that much gud.. front bumper looks like fiesta 1.6s, head lamp is like the modification of maruti baleno. so many models are introducing by ford in other countries.why here they are lanching like this models. i think for rates new ford ikon vehicle will move, not other than that. simply its another model of logan.

    I bought the 1.4 diesel Dura torq this week and it’s a brilliant car!! Took the test drive last week and here’s what made me decide… As I climbed into the car I realised the biggest and most prominent change is the new digital odometer with backlit dials add to the car’s theme. The leg room is adequate and seats are comfortable and the handling is superb and the suspension is really good. You can hardly feel any bumps.
    Ive Driven the Ford Ikon 1.6 before and this Diesel model matches it for power! there is hardly any noise even when we were cruising at 110 kph. What really helps is the pickup at traffic signals when you pull away before other small cars… lol.

    The new ikon has a new engine. it has the same engine which is in fiesta,as the fiesta’s engine is very well known in the market for very good fuel economy and giving a surprising pick-up. The fiesta is much haevier than ikon, then it is sure that the ikon is going to give a very though fight to M-swift and other car’s in it’s segment.the old engine of ford ikon was havig 1.8 having fuel economy of 18.3 on highway and 13.5 in city. the only worse thing is that it does not have safety features like-ABS,SRS air bags,etc.

    ikon will not be able to compete with swift dzire,logan,verna.. it is somehow same as old ikon ,u must change it exterior totally.even old ikon was much better in looks than new. do some innovation to look it attractive,,. we will wait for new ikon with better looks in starting of 2010. and plz dont hike the price .even i am ur one of customer. thanx

    Ford ikon 1.4 is a very good car in this segment ,its very comfort and price worthy.Its giving me a milage of 24 in highways an 16 in city ,they have also given me a three yera/ 3,00000 free warrenty period

    hey this car is very good looking.in this pic it is not looking good.but in reality this is really a good car.and its rate is also normal……….the engine of ikon is same as for fiesta.i think that this is good car in this rate
