New Bajaj Pulsar 220cc variant launched

Bajaj Auto, India’s second largest two wheeler manufacturer, launched a new variant of  its 220cc Bajaj Pulsar on June 30, 2009.

The new Bajaj Pulsar will be available at a price of Rs. 70,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).

The company has claimed that the new variant of the Bajaj Pulsar 220cc is the fastest bike on India roads.

Bajaj Auto chief executive (two-wheelers) S. Sridhar said, “”We have been continuously evolving our Pulsar range to provide our customers state-of-the-art product with unmatched performance and technology.”

“The new edition of Pulsar-220 has further raised the bar in the performance segment by becoming India’s fastest bike,” he added.

With the launch of the new variant, the Bajaj Pulsar will now be available in four variants, 150cc, 180cc, 200cc and 220cc.

Bajaj Auto is depending heavily on its new launches to beef up its flagging sales.

The company’s sales have been dipping continuously since the economic slowdown. In May 2009, Bajaj’s sales fell by 8.4 per cent, to 165,697 units, compared to its sales in May 2008.

In 2008-09, the company managed a sale of 1,919,582 units, down 11.18 per cent as compared to 2,161,095 units in 2007-08.

With the introduction of this new variant the company looks to up the ante and improve its market share in this new fiscal.

Rajiv Bajaj, managing director, Bajaj Auto, has said that the company expects to sell 175,000-200,000 units every month starting second half of 2009-2010.

He said, “With the launch of a new large volume motorcycle on July 18, Bajaj expects to record high double digit motorcycle sales growth from August 2009 onwards.”

The new motorcycle that Bajaj calles the “world’s most fuel-efficient bike” will come with DTS-Si 2.0, a new version of the DTS-Si, a technology used in its recently-launched fuel-efficient engines.
