AUTO - MITSUBISHI LANCER CEDIA

Mitsubishi Lancer Cedia launch in India soon

BY BM

24 August, 2005: After seeing the Mitsubishi Lancer around in all its myriad versions - tame, sci-fi, rally, grinning, whatever - a totally new version is always welcome.

Enter the Mitsubishi Lancer Cedia. Bigger, better, more powerful. It has just one defect. It is not the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO.

The Cedia definitely looks more aggressive from the front than the current Lancer with its steely grin. As for the rest, the looks are certainly uninspiring. There is a Honda City-like ridge running down the middle of the bonnet. The rear view is nothing great, and not particularly sporty or classy either. It's just there. A small spoiler exists. With a wheelbase similar to that of the Toyota Corolla, the Lancer Cedia is not a small car.

Interiors of the Cedia are decent. The car has a low stance - so you crouch when getting in and out. And you sit low - however, comfort levels seem reasonably good for such a low slung car. The Mitsubishi Lancer cedia which people have seen has the same interior as a Lancer Evo - whether this will remain in the production version for India remains to be seen.

The Lancer Cedia gives you 125 hhp from a four-pot, 16 valve petrol engine, and test drives so far seem to tell us that it accelerates fast. No real test drive has been conducted by anyone we know so far - will keep you posted on this. This car is supposed to follow in the hallowed Mitsubishi Lancer-EVO tradition, and therefore will be quite performance oriented.  This is not a car to  be chauffeured around in.

Prices have not been announced yet, but they are expected to be definitely higher than the current Lancer versions.
