Maruti Suzuki Swift Glam Limited Edition

Wednesday, June 24, 2009, 16:14

Not a real new car, guys. But we should not be complaining – after all, Maruti Suzuki has given us a few real new cars this year – the Suzuki A-Star and the Ritz. So let’s be nice to them and not poke too much fun at the latest ‘limited edition’ car in the market, m’kay?

The new hatchback car is the Maruti Suzuki Swift Glam Limited Edition. Unlike most other car companies, they have given us a ‘glam’ limited edition, not a sport limited edition. That’s nice. No pretences there.

There is speculation that the Glam edition is Suzuki’s ploy to clear stocks before they introduce the K12M engine in the Swift.

So what does the new Glam version of the popular Swift hatchback include? Let’s take a look.

You get beige upholstery. Can’t complain about that. There is an integrated audio system – both good and bad. Good for those who like to get a complete car with all the goodies in place, bad for those who prefer to go for their favourite aftermarket audio systems. Keyless remote entry – I sort of thought the Swift always had that. Was wrong, and now the Glam Limited gives you that.

What else?

Dual tone dashboard. A nice addition to the car for sure. The black interiors always made the Suzuki Swift look a little smaller than it should. The new fashion in India is all about happy and light beige interiors. Good one there, Maruti. Some new wheel cover designs are also there. So the Glam Limited Edition is not available on the top-end Suzuki Swift ZXi? I am not sure I get it – or you can get the ZXi with the rest of the Glam features?

Ah, two new paint schemes for the Glam Limited Edition. Maruti Suzuki calls them Goldsmith Black and noble Arctic White. What’s black about goldsmiths, and what’s noble about the Arctic, Maruti? Oh, never mind. Car paint names have always had a history of sounding stupid. Forgive them.

Body coloured ORVMs and door handles are a nice touch.

Why the need for a Limited Edition at this stage, you may ask. Competition, is the answer. The new Fiat Grande Punto is positioned squarely against the Suzuki Swift, and the Hyundai i20 is definitely more of a premium hatchback than the top-end Swift. So probably while Maruti plans its ‘real’ competition against the i20s and the Punto, why not have a Glam Limited Edition as a stop-gap arrangement, right? Makes sense, that way.

Sadly, at this moment, there is no information on the price of the Glam Edition Swift anywhere. No pics either. Will try to get hands on some photos soon – but only if there is some visible difference to see. The Suzuki Swift website does not even acknowledge the addition of a new version of the Swift. Oh well… If you know anything more, do let us know in the comments.

I’ve just inquired about the Swift Glam. It costs Rs. 5,37,000.00 (on road) in Bangalore. It is being offered to those customers who has originally booked Swift VXI a while ago and waiting for delivery. Maruthi might have cut down on the production of high and mid segment models which has resulted in delays (30 days or more) in delivery.

the keyless entry is just superb as the lock open and close keys are incorporated in the key itself… beige interiors and parcel tray gives a lot of space inside my car… I am satisfied

If anyone has idea, I would like to know when the Swift petrol with K series engine is going to be launched. I would rather go for it than buying one with an outdated esteem engine.

Maruthi has plans to introduce the K series engine around Marche 2010. As per the emission norms all the metro cities(inclusive 12 other cities) will be migrated to BS IV norms from 1st April 2010. RTO will not accept the BS III standard for registration in these cities. Hopefully maruthi is tuning the K12 engine to fit it in maruti petrol version. There will not be any change in the diesel engine as they are planning to tune existing engine to adapt BSIV standards. As maruti is the first company to bring BSIV standard in India, the company can achieve it in other models before April 2010. But still its a question mark to other car manufacturers. Let see whether the companies can achieve it or the government to move the date to next fiscal? fingers crossed
