MARUTI SUZUKI INDIA

Maruti Udyog is now Maruti Suzuki India Ltd

20 September, 2007

The Registrar of Companies has approved Maruti Udyog Ltd’s change of name to Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.

According to analysts, this development is likely to help Maruti in its quest to bag a share of the global markets. Expert opinion is that the ‘India’ in the new corporate name conveys the location of the company and its facilities, and also recognizes the growing importance of the country across the world.

The board had approved 'Maruti Suzuki India Ltd' as the new name in July 2007, subject to approval by the company's shareholders. The company's shareholders approved the new name at the annual general meeting held on September 6, 2007. Besides being the parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation is a leading player in the global automobile market.

Meanwhile, Maruti will launch a model for export to Europe by 2009. With this model, Maruti hopes to repeat its success in Asian and African markets.

A report said that Maruti is looking at developing capabilities to assume the role of being Suzuki's research and development hub for Asia outside Japan. Maruti had recently positioned itself as a complete car maker with the success of its globally strategic models like Swift, SX4 and Grand Vitara.
