The first batch of the A-Stars comprised 1,534 units and was for export to the UK and Italy. The shipment has also put India on the world map as a global hub for manufacturing and exporting small cars. The export of the first batch of A-Stars, termed as a big leap in automotive logistics for India, is expected to make Maruti Suzuki’s presence in the European market stronger than ever. The company had launched its A-Star in mid-November 2008, after having built it with a tasteful design that would lure both European and Indian customers to dealerships. According to reviews, the A-Star, a compact model that boasts of a new design is also one of the finest in terms of environment friendliness.

The export also meant the kick start of  a new deal between Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd and the NYK Line. With the new export consignment dispatched, Maruti Suzuki has lined up major plans in the export arena. The company believes that it has the technology and skills to make international quality cars for the global markets.

The deal with the Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd and the NYK Line is aimed at pushing export ambitions. The company believes that it needed  infrastructure support of a dedicated car terminal. It said that partners such as MPSEZL and NYK have given it the confidence to boost export volumes to a much higher level.  Maruti Suzuki is said to be looking forward to increase its export volumes in its bid to strengthen its presence in Europe.
