Utility vehicles major Mahindra & Mahindra is on road to launching its Xylo MUV on schedule.
The company is currently manufacturing the Xylo at its Nashik plant in Maharashtra. The Mahindra Xylo is the most anticipated product from the Mahindra stable since the Scorpio. At least, the hits on our this Mahindra Xylo story on this site tells us that!
Mahindra Xylo variants? feature comparison
While the official launch of the Xylo is scheduled for January 13, the company plans to open customer bookings on January 14, 2009. Tipped to be a major player in the MPV segment, the company has built the Xylo with a blend of style and sophistication of a sedan plus the ruggedness of an SUV.
According to Mahindra top bosses, the Nashik Plant has an annual manufacturing capacity of about 25,000 units of the Xylo. The Xylo has been developed by a project team consisting of 160 experts who have created new benchmarks in terms of styling, technology and performance.
The marketing jargon that we have been subjected to said something about the engineers at Mahindra & Mahindra deploying the ReFinE methodology aimed at creating emotional surplus. It just left us very confused as such stuff normally does. The few computer-generated images of the Xylo, plus the spy shots taken by enthusiasts, tell us that visually the Mahindra Xylo will be very similar to the Toyota Innova. The front is a point of worry, though, for my aesthetic sensibilities. Picture the front of a Bolero pasted on to an Innova grille. Hopefully, it is just an overenthusiastic graphics guy, and the final vehicle, in metal, will look a lot better. Here is hoping that the Mahindra Xylo will indeed be a handsome vehicle; we would be waiting with bated breath for the launch.
The Xylo has been extensively tested and validated for real world usage in India and several other countries, says Mahindra.
Significantly enough, the company unveiled a pre-launch website for the Mahindra Xylo. According to the auto major, the site has received close to 49,100 hits since it went online on November 26, 2009. The Mahindra Xylo website offers a sneak peak at the world-class robotised assembly created for the Xylo. Likely to come with a price tag of around Rs 8 lakh, the Xylo will give competition to proven models from competitors, the Toyota Innova. Mahindra is currently the market leader in multi-utility vehicles in India and had recently made a splash in the passenger car segment with the Logan.
It has been pointed out that the much awaited Mahindra XYLO has been co-created with customers for developing a vehicle built around the lifestyle and luxury expectations of customers. A look at the Xylo website would open the doors for the visitor to know more about renowned car photographer, said Lou D’Angelo from Australia who was commissioned to photograph the Xylo.
