Mahindra Xylo launch on Jan 13: Great expectations?

The Mahindra Xylo will debut on January 13, 2009 – that’s today. The much awaited MUV from the Mahindra stables will roll out of the Nashik facility in Maharashtra.

Details of the Mahindra Xylo are already leaking out – but what no one has seen so far is a clear picture of the new Innova-competitor from Mahindra stables. And what few pictures that we have seen so far are not particularly impressive – at this moment, we are waiting for the official photos of the Mahindra Xylo, which would be available soon after the official launch today.

Mahindra says that the Xylo will roll out with a new styling, an advanced technology and superlative performance. Bookings for the Mahindra Xylo will start on Jan 14, 2009. Quite likely, initial demand would be high. Mahindra is sure to price the Xylo a notch below the Innova to ensure high sales. Would the Xylo’s sales kickstart the new year on a grand note for Mahindra, and for the Indian auto industry? That would be a good thing indeed – the Indian auto industry needs some uplifting news after a bad November and December 2008.

On DWS Auto India, Xylo demand is at an all-time high. There is something about MPVs and India – we remember that a few years back, prior to the Toyota Innova launch in India, interest had peaked higher than any other car sans the Tata Nano last year. This time, in 2009, it is the Mahindra Xylo that is the most popular story on the entire DWS network of blogs as of now.

The Xylo, which has turned out to be the most-awaited product from the Mahindra assembly line since the Scorpio SUV, is a vehicle that has been validated for real world usage in India and several other countries.

Incidentally, the automotive major had made a splash with a campaign aimed at promoting the Xylo. The pre-launch website, which was unveiled as part of the campaign, successfully created an overwhelming amount of interest in the vehicle even as the launch date approached. The site had gone live November 26, last year , nd just ahead of the launch it had registered 174,708 total visits with 9,651 entries for the ‘Win a XYLO’ contest.
