Mahindra proposes joint badging of new Renault cars from Chennai plant

Indian auto major Mahindra and Mahindra is taking its partnership with French major Renault into joint badging. M&M and Renault are joining hands to badge and distribute the four new Renault cars produced at the Chennai factory from year 2010, when production would begin.

We can see how joint badging would benefit Mahindra – it gets to take credit and get its brand name associates with some new cars way out of its league. What Renault would get out of it is a bit to unclear to us at the moment.

The partnership might position Mahindras as a leader in the passenger car segment in India. With four new cars under the Renault brand to be rolled out of the Chennai facility, Mahindra can only benefit. We are sure Mahindra has made a proposal to Renault which would be attractive to the company – just that we don’t know what it is. Perhaps, getting access to the full Mahindra network in India might be temptation enough.

The four cars, which would include both big and small models, will boast of around 2 lakh units being rolled out. Besides, Renault, it is expected that group company Nissan too would churn out a similar number.

The Mahindra Renault Logan has aready found a sizeable base in the passenger car space in India. With a spacious wide body, the sedan carries the Renault space optimization design in style.  The car comes with added levels of luxury and spaciousness and a good range of sophisticated features such as a robust silhouette, straight lines, and triangular rear lights equip the car with elegance and style.

With a seating capacity for five, the Mahindra Renault Logan provides ample comfort to the driver and the occupants on long journeys. The spacious 510 litre boot space , the back seat that is suitably wide with three headrests for long journeys and the four way HVAC are added features. Power steering, adjustable rear seat head restraints, body coloured front grille, mid size wheel colours, childproof rear door locks, halogen headlamps, and laminated windshield form the additional features.
