Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) launched its Bolero MaxiTruck, on July 14, 2009. The vehicle comes with micro hybrid technology and is priced Rs.3.52 lakh (ex-showroom Pune). M&M has used the micro hybrid technology earlier in the Mahindra Bolero and the Mahindra Scorpio.
The Mahindra Bolero MaxiTruck features a viscous-fan drive technology, which switches off the fan when the engine temperature falls below a pre-set threshold value.
The Mahindra Bolero MaxiTruck comes with a new muffler design that reduces the back pressure resulting in improved fuel efficiency. Mahindra’s micro hybrid technology is based on a simple principle of not consuming fuel when it is not required, the company said.
The company claims that the Mahindra Bolero MaxiTruck is the first product in the Pick-Up category to offer micro hybrid technology pioneered by Mahindra in India.
The technology is capable of automatically detecting the times when the vehicle is idle. The micro hybrid technology automatically shuts the engine when the vehicle comes to halt.
On pressing the clutch pedal, the engine starts again. This technology helps in reduction of fuel consumption and makes the Mahindra Bolero MaxiTruck a good economic proposition.
“The micro hybrid technology will help deliver considerable improvement in fuel efficiency, ensuring greater prosperity for our customers,” said Vivek Nayer, senior vice-president, Marketing, Automotive Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
The company has said that the new Mahindra Bolero MaxiTruck features the stylish front look of the Bolero, which “gives the vehicle a masculine yet aesthetic face, lending it a strong on-road presence and evoking a sense of pride for its owner.”
The interiors of the Mahindra Bolero MaxiTruck are plush and comfortable. The vehicle has a top speed of 100km/h and a one-tonne payload.
The Mahindra Bolero MaxiTruck will be manufactured in the Kandivali plant in Mumbai. All the other Mahindra and Mahindra tractors, Commanders and Armadas are built in this plant. The CNG variant of the Mahindra Bolero MaxiTruck is expected to be launched soon.
