19 August, 2005:
Hyundai Sonata Embera, the bigger and better version of its earlier luxury sedan is here. Hyundai Motor India unveiled the Sonata Embera in New Delhi, at a price of Rs 13.69 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The fifth generation Sonata comes with a 2.4 litre engine, new body styling, plush interiors and advanced safety features. The automatic versin of the Sonata Embera costs Rs 14.59 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
The Hyundai Sonata Embera gets its name from a warrior class in Central America, named the Embera, Hyundai Motor India said in a press release. The Sonata Embera sports a high-power 2.4 Litre, four cylinder, aluminum VTVT (Variable Timing Valve Train) engine, which churns out a power of 165 ps @ 5,800 rpm, ensuring fast response and solid acceleration. The Sonata Embera comes with a maximum torque of 23.6 kgm @ 4,250 rpm. Hyundai claims that the Embera has excellent pick-up and performance.
According to a Hyundai Motor press relesae, the Sonata Embera has much higher fuel efficiency, courtesy its light-weight, newly-designed engine block. The Sonata Embera stands with a good 170-mm ground clearance, good for Indian road conditions.
The Embera's body looks distinctly different from its predecessor Sonata. Hyundai designers have chosen a more classy and contemporary design for the Sonata Embera, with softly curved and sinuous lines and jeweled projector headlights. The sporty twin exhausts and large 16” alloy wheels add to the Embera's appeal.
The interiors of the Sonata Embera come with plush, two-tone styling – done in beige and black. Tilt and telescopic steering, a dash of wood finish on the front panel and numerous utility features provide the Sonata Embera's interiors a perfect blend of luxury and comfort.
Hyundai has taken much care about the car's safety aspects also. The Embera comes packed with several active and passive safety systems like Anti-lock Braking mechanism (ABS), seat belts with pre-tensioner and dual front airbags.
The Sonata Embera is bigger too. It is 53mm longer, 12 mm wider and 53mm higher than the current Hyundai Sonata. The manual transmission version has 5 gears, while the automatic variant has four. The Embera's fuel tak is bigger too, and holds 5 litres more than the current Hyundai Sonata.
The Sonata Embera, which has won the JD Power Initial Quality Study Award for 2005, beating established competitors in the US, will be available in India in six colours in a subtle colour palette, in keeping with the profile of the car. The interior fabric has two options – beige leather and beige cloth.
“Sonata Embera, is a sleek new sedan, which will set new standards in technological excellence, elegant styling and segment-leading safety features in India. Hyundai engineers toiled for over three years to come up with a car that meets the aspirations of the global citizen. It has received fabulous reviews in the US and European markets, and is now all set to drive into the hearts of our Indian customers,” said Hyundai Motor India Managing Director, Mr SS Yang, at the launch of the new car.
