Hyundai Motor India has launched a new LPG variant of its Hyundai Accent sedan, the Hyundai Accent Eco. The car is priced at Rs 5,33,900 (ex-showroom Delhi), around Rs 34,900 more than its petrol variant.

The Hyundai Accent has been a popular car in the Indian market and was launched with a CNG kit in June 2008.

“The Accent has always been a very strong product in its segment. Earlier we had introduced it with a CNG kit and our customers found it to be a really attractive proposition, as it has all one can look for in this class of cars,” said  H S Lheem, Managing Director, HMIL.

“The LPG version will only add to the appeal of Accent, as it will not only be cheaper to run and maintain but also eco friendly,” he further explained.

Talking about customer safety, HS Lheem said that Hyundai has ensured that the Hyundai Accent Eco meets all the safety standards required by customers.

The factory-fitted LPG kit has been approved and certified by India’s major automobile testing and certifying authority, the Department of Explosives
(DOE) and Automotive research Authority of India (ARAI).

The Hyundai Accent Eco comes with a 1.5-litre engine and a 5 speed, manual Transmission.

The car is equipped with a 45-litre petrol tank and a 27.2-litre LPG tank so users can choose between petrol and LPG mode.

The LPG tank has been given a special Toroidal design to make the maximum possible use of space, thereby optimising luggage room.

Hyundai Motor India also claims that the Hyundai Accent Eco will have lower emissions of spent gases like carbon-di-oxide and carbon monoxide as compared to the petrol variant of the car.

The company says that the Hyundai  Accent Eco has a longer engine life and requires low engine maintenance.

The company also claims that owners will not be required to change the engine oil frequently.

The Hyundai Accent Eco will go through LPG leakage detection test three times before being delivered to the buyer. The car is equipped with a special filler cap inside the LPG lining to avoid attrition of parts.

The company also provides an unlimited 2-year warranty.

Hyundai has already introduced the Hyundai Santro in LPG and CNG variants. The company will also start running three shifts at its Chennai plant from June 10, 2009, as it expects a considerable increase in sales.

In 2008, the company had reduced the number of shifts at its Chennai plant from three to the current two shifts because of fallings sales.
